Exactly 2 years ago I took a series of pics of an otter eating a fish...that could have been decent. But I botched them terribly. Underexposed by 4-5 stops, then I LOST the damned things and had to recover from the hard drive. In the end, pics were terribly noisy due to the underexposure. This weekend I decided to try some new software for de-noising images for a different set of pics and while I was at it decided to give the old otter pics the treatment. And they turned out ok. Still underexposed, but my software won't let me bring them up further than this. At least they're not as bad as they were.

The recovery program used was Stellar Photo Recovery, noise reduction software is DxO PureRAW 4, and I use Capture One for my normal post-processing. I'm using Dxo on a 2 week free trial, and results so far have been pretty good. I'll probably end up buying it or another similar. I still have Stellar, but should stop the subscription since I haven't needed it since the the one instance. Capture One is pretty good but has a steep learning curve. I'd prefer Lightroom, but refuse to pay a monthly fee to use it and C1 lets me buy the program outright.

wonder if the joro would make a nice pet..... interesting, as there's a similar looking spider setting up on my garage door. it disappeared during winter, but left a ball(egg?) behind.

That sounds like a Banana garden spider, they are harmless.

was watching a nature program on PBS and saw a roadrunner slowly approach a group of hummingbirds, leap and grab one. it ate it! never would have though it.

I prefer to use the .dng files since Capture One can edit them in CYMK or RGB or grayscale, but can only edit .tiff in RGB. So far the results have been pretty good. I'll probably buy it, but I may demo others first.
