David Gilmour or Rogers Water

Gilmore; and while I think Waters is and was a total you-know-what I can't deny his creative spark within the group.
 
So Gilmour is Davinci. Somebody says "Paint a picture of my wife, give her a smirk" and he does like the best picture of somebody's wife ever. Technically brilliant. But not the most unexpected thing the world has seen. But obviously an artist, of a type.

Waters is Picasso. He thinks of what to paint, and does it in a divisive manner, maybe not technically perfect but the idea is his and only his. There's this public statue in Chicago by Picasso that everybody thinks is a baboon. Because that is what it looks like from the front. But from the back, at an angle, you see its a beautiful lady looking over her shoulder. And you only see that from one, hardly ever observed angle. Its a very divisive statue, somewhat of a joke on public art...but when you see the lady looking over her shoulder as the different pieces line up, you never forget it. But you have to work to get it...its a baboon from the lazy angle.

I listen to "When the Tigers Broke Free" and I think "Holy crap, this guy's life was torn apart by some meaningless order in some long forgotten battle the result of mankind being mankind's own worst enemy". I listen to anything Gilmour did and I think "Holy crap, that guy can play a mean guitar". The musician vs the writer. The really need each other, but I'll take the idea guy.

That's my defense and I'm sticking to it. Bigerik and Urizen, we can still be friends. Zebra? Maybe one day we can start :).

Perhaps it's already been pointed out - but in a concert setting I find it somewhat amusing that Waters has 3 people (singer and 2 guitarists) to add up to Gilmour:scratch2:
 
My 2 favorite PF albums, Animals and Meddle. I haven't really listened to each of them on their own, I should try it out.

And Gilmour hasn't found anybody that can add up to Waters.

I was typing up an overly wordy response that boiled down to what you just said much more concisely so I'll just add a +1. I'd still rather have a beer with Dave though.
 
That's tough.

Neither is in part what the sum of the parts create. It's kinda like choosing between winter and summer, everyone has their favorite. I think most will agree that DG is the more intrinsicly likable of the two, while RW is the driven one, the spark or even fire that fueled the boiler. But when it's all said and done, It's more about the sound and the music for me and less about the words and the concepts. Echos or Careful with that Axe would be good examples. If I was forced to pick it would prolly be DG.

On a side note I heard RW with EC backing him up in '83-'84. Great concert, and you could argue that EC is the better guitarist.

However, it just wasn't the same....:sigh:
 
David Gilmour easily. If you've heard the Live 8 performance, you'll know Roger Waters voice is all croaky and strained, even on the speaking parts of "Comfortably Numb", whereas David's voice seems to be holding up well. Anyone can play the bass as good or if not better than Waters, but try finding someone to play guitar as good as Gilmour.

When "The Wall" came out, I couldn't listen to it, too political for me. It still is, but I managed to make a single CD out of the double CD that I call "The Short Wall". The courtroom track is just crap.
