I bought an oscilloscope and frequency generator first, and they will be the last I use - for testing and tuning.For the cost of a good scope, both pieces of soldering equipment can be had. An oscilloscope would probably be the last piece of equipment I would buy, imho.

Ok, for all you Hakko experts, how do you pronounce it, Hock-Oh, Hack-Oh, or somewhere in between?

I go with "hacko" (i.e. the short "a" I use for "cat") but whatever you're already using is probably a correct pronunciation. There is no "the" correct pronunciation of it in English.
In Japanese, Hakko has a short "a", a doubled "k", and a long "o". All Japanese vowels have a short and a long version, and generally they don't precisely match so-called standard English, from either side of the Atlantic. Often the distinction between long and short, which is important in Japanese, is not maintained in romanisation.
Hakko is a compound of hachi and ko, so the double k, definitely pronounced distinctly (with a stop) from the single k in the entirely different word "hako", represents a contraction of two words (or morphemes, but let's stay away from that).

Took a few days to receive this. Haven't used in real world application yet, just some dry-fire practice. The trigger is a bit heavy and has some creep, but a smooth break. The kick? Yep it kicks, but not unmanageable. Ergonomics? For a large single action.... A+My thoughts, exactly - heat fast - keep heat localized.
And on second thought about an all-in-one solder sucker.... I decided to go with a spring operated sucker. Why? I can use my variable heat solder iron to heat fast. I'm not sure about the jerking motion of the spring operated ones, but for my budget and functionality.... I bought one.
