Denon DP 1200

I'm thinking of trying to buy a Denon DP 1200 turntable. I like the looks of it. Does anyone have an opinion on these turntables good or bad? Here's a picture of it

Denons of that era were very respectable. I don't think you can go wrong with it. The manual for the DP-1100/1250 which is very similar is over at vinylengine.

That isn't a Denon arm is it? Seems a bit low end, though maybe I am not seeing it right. As in I am half lit. :beer:

As for the deck, they are very nice, pair it with a good arm and it is a wonderful deck. You will love it, good solid sound. If Musicality, as in lilting tunes are what you want, not so much. However, if you want authoritative sound with a lot of dynamics and full body, it is perfect.

I'm not sure about the arm. The ad says he is the original owner and he doesn't mention the arm being anything other than original. Here's a picture of the arm.

I have one put away in a closet somewhere around here. It is a good heavy, solid turntable that performs pretty well. Answering VH's question about the tonearm, yes, mine has the same arm, and it is the same quality as any other stock arm on other turntables of similar price. The only thing that bothered me about this table is that in order to make the platter rotate by the motor, you have to place the arm over the platter and engage the switch, but this also lowers the tonearm at the same time, making it difficult to use a record brush to sweep off the record prior to playing.

Uh oh, that may be a killer. Does it not have a cueing lever where you can keep the arm elevated off the record manually at any position over the platter?

No, the play switch acts as a cueing lever.

I wouldn't be to fast to blow it off. But, that depends on the price/condition of the unit. I must admit Denon TT's have a rep for being troublesome. Record Shop in town uses one and it seems to work well though.
