Denon DP-45F: $245

What seems steep to you about the price? Have you checked completed e-bay sales and have you read any horror stories about having turntables shipped? What is your past experience with turntables and why are you interested in this Denon model?
If this were the model I was looking for and this came up on my CL I would have gone and looked at it by now. If it is what it says it is in the description and it is the one I wanted I would by it in a heartbeat. If you are just looking for a cheap turntable then this one probably isn't for you.
Good luck in your search.

With a dust cover that clean I'd say it's well worth the money. Might be able to get him/her closer to $200. If you haven't owned a functioning Denon, read the specs; at or better than most tables 4 times the price!

Thanks for all the input! This would be my first TT. I haven't been looking for this specific model, but it does seem to have the features I want, and I like the way it looks. I have asked him if he'll take $200, so we shall see.

I got lucky on CL while back and picked one up for $75 in excellent condition with original box etc.
Along with a new AT440 mla cart I added, it does sound sweet.

That one looks nice also and would be worth it IMHO and like mentioned above, you may be able to negotiate a lower price.

It is a very nice turn table!

Make sure all the features are fully functional.

Do you know what the features are? :scratch2:

If you don't, read the owner's manual and find out first.

You can download the owner' and service manual for free after registration.

Good luck! :music:

Great advice Bali. Fixing these Denon's are an impossible task depending what/if's anything wrong.

Thanks for the link to the manual, Balifly. I read through it. He wouldn't accept my $200 offer, but he countered with $225. He also guarantees my money back if it doesn't perform as promised. I'm hoping to go check it out today.

Hajidub: Why are these Denons so hard to fix? Are parts hard to find? That makes me a little nervous...

...Why are these Denons so hard to fix? Are parts hard to find? That makes me a little nervous...

They have a lot more electronic parts controlling it, as opposed to tracking down a broken or sticking mechanical part and replacing or lubing it. A bad semiconductor is more difficult to diagnose and replace than a bad clip, o-ring, spring, etc...

And, yes. This is an amazing table. Especially in the condition that the images make it out to be in.

I own this table - it was a 1 owner table and in the shape this one looks to be in.
The deck was/is flawless without a scratch - cover has some swirls but no scratches.

Deck performs beautifully - I mated it with a Denon DL301MKII and the combo is terrific.

For $225 and with promise to return if not satisfied - I would grab it in a heart beat!

Good luck - let us know how it turns out.

The price doesn't seem out of line to me. It looks like a really nice example of a fine turntable. If you're looking for a nice turntable, this would be money well spent imo.

It's no super bargain, but it is worth the asking price. If the seller is offering a money back guarantee I'd jump on it. These are fantastic decks, and this one looks very nice.

I'm going to check it out tomorrow. In the meantime, I've been looking for a phono preamp so I can hook a turntable up to my modern Harman-Kardon receiver. Hopefully this all works out! I'm excited to finally get a TT. Thanks for all of the input!

That looks like one heck of a nice 'table to me. I've never owned a Denon (really never liked the looks of most of them) but that is one sexy 'table and it's fully automatic. Depending on what cartridge is mounted to it, that could be a heck of a deal given that it's been recently reconditioned.

Do keep us posted.

What is the approximate price range for the phono pre amp ? :scratch2:

I've got a dp51F with a shure v15iv and I LOVE it, it sent my TD160 packing. The automatic controlls seemed way lost on mine and the table acted weird and wouldn't play .. until I figured out you have to disassemble the push buttons on the circuit board and physically clean them with deoxit and a qtip. You have to pull the whole button circuit board out and use sunglasses screwdrivers to pry the switches apart (they snap together, be careful not to break the tabs!) and there is a little copper plate inside that will be almost black with oxidation. I suspect that many people think that the electronics have died in these tables when they don't realize the switches are the main problem.

As mentioned check all of the functions carefully and ask if there are any intermittent troubles that come and go (especially with the motor's rotation and speed regulation). These tables are a f***in' nightmare to repair as they have more electronics in them than the average receiver and they are loaded with unobtainable parts. I've been able to repair a couple of these but more often than not it's not worth doing. Nice tables when they are working and as long as they stay that way, but IMO when it comes to playing albums the simpler the better.
