"Extra Rare vintage Marantz Rack System - $4500"

All it would take to find out is $4500 and a can of Krylon.

Heh, I was thinking more along the lines of the black anodized faceplates that TMZ2 had made, those were gorgeous, and I think would look great with silver buttons and knobs.

Oh my jeezus... That thing is sweet! And for the price maranta 2600s and pioneer 1980s are going for...I don't think he's that far off.

That 2130 with nicely working scope would bring near $1,000 on the big auction site. He's not crazy.

Here you go, knowing a complete original rack with no scratches, all the handles, everythings works great...

2130 tuner... $1050
5030B cassette...200
3650 preamp.... 500
300 DC amp..... 900
6370Q turntable 800
all rack handles 400
roller rack 300

TOTAL.. about $4200
These bad boys are much rarer then the Nakamichi 600 series, because there was less demand for them in the day. Conversely, today there are far fewer, and none in the condition this one presents. It is just like the Jensen G610, which is a much poorer driver than the Altec 604, but much more valued by collectors because everyone bought Altecs in the day.

You are low on the 3650. That makes 4.5k.

I posted my full Pioneer SPEC system for $2800 and didnt even get a bite ... good luck to the seller. I was hoping to get around $2500 - nada ... I figure I will wait until fall and see what it sells for.

Have we gotten to the point of paying more than MSRP for that gear because it is a name brand? sure the cassette is below the msrp of 470 but the rest is way over list price. the rack and handles are something that do command a premium because they do sound better than competing gear at the same price. The rest...Marantz Premium Lives.

Wish I has some Marantz to capitalize on that. Only piece left is a 1030 integrated, early, engarved, pre/power, cabinet.

Take the MSRP, run it through the inflation calculator to compensate for inflation, and then fall out of your chair.

inflation calculator does not account for sound quality.

Looking at this price, I'd think there is a nice Audio Research preamp, Higher end amplifier from any number of manufacturers but let's pick on McCormack, no cassette deck, a nice Thorens TD-125 with an SME tonearm, and any number of tuners that would put this system in the weeds sonically, but you would need to add a nice Tektronix 465 scope to have that covered.

No rack, no handles, not matching but great sounding compared...just saying this is a collectors system or someone that wants the Marantz because of that built in Marantz magnet. Sure it is a good system but lots of stuff out there WAY BETTER FOR LESS. The Marantz premium is strong on this lot. Use the Force Skywalker, use the Force.

Different horses for different courses.

Some people like black. Some like aluminum.

Others like tubes. Some want only solid state.

Some only buy new. Most can't afford new and only get vintage.

Digital vs analogue.

Collector or best sound for the largest consideration.

It never ends. But this seller knows he can get $4500 in total, he figured he will ask that en toto to see if anyone bites, and how close. That is a smart route to take.

LMAO the audio world of collecting is no different than the automotive world of collecting or any other for that matter. there is always going to be brands that people are willing to pay more for because of perceived value or desirability regardless of performance.

Comparing original MSRP to today's prices or to newer products that perform better as a valid argument is a waste of time and space.

Even a brand new BOTL Chevy or Ford car of today is likely to outperform a 50 year old classic but no one cares. Performance is not why people are paying a premium.

Relax stop hating it only gives you heartburn and changes nothing :D

Yup, Nice $100,000 plus muscle car is more than capable of going fast in a straight line but a similarly priced new BMW M5 or M6 will run circles around it and save enough gas going faster to pay for itself in the next 15 years of ownership. Nothing nostalgic or lust worthy from our youth to make that M5/6 sell in place of that muscle car.

Snow can rain on parades!

Your post is dead on! We all can stay in our own heads and not appreciate others personal take with enjoying this hobby. One could take that setup, build one hell of a presentation display for it,install it behind a backbar at a trendy club.....audiosnoots be damned. (Tell that guy he's stupid and he'll laugh at you all the way to the bank.)

Love the image, I'm betting the hipsters would be fascinated to see the cassette player do its stuff!
