Denon DP-45F: $245

As mentioned check all of the functions carefully and ask if there are any intermittent troubles that come and go (especially with the motor's rotation and speed regulation). These tables are a f***in' nightmare to repair as they have more electronics in them than the average receiver and they are loaded with unobtainable parts. I've been able to repair a couple of these but more often than not it's not worth doing. Nice tables when they are working and as long as they stay that way, but IMO when it comes to playing albums the simpler the better.

Wow...Ok, will do! I'm going to ask him exactly what was done to "recondition" it, and when it was done. Perhaps he has a receipt/work order? I hope he at least has a record he can put on it so I can make sure the auto features function properly, as well as everything else (no, I don't own any records just yet). As mentioned, he can't play a record for me because he doesn't currently have an amp, hence his "money back guarantee." I wonder if I should get that in writing? :scratch2:

Also, I ordered the ART DJPRE II preamp

Bring an old LP and put the turn table through the play mode mechanically. :music:

The sound reproduction can be tested at your home later.

Not trying to scare/alarm you!

Since you are not use to fixing up turn tables, it would be a drag to have to do it on your first turn table.

Well, I bought it! He had an old record there so that I could test all of the functions and at least visually make sure that everything looked good. Everything seemed to check out. It's got a Denon DL-60 cartridge, which was the original part so I'm guessing it's never been replaced. He said the TT was in storage for about 5 years before he got it. He had no idea if the stylus is original or not. Is there an easy way to tell when the cartridge and/or stylus should be replaced?

Can't wait for my preamp and cables to arrive tomorrow so I can try this baby out! Thanks again for all of the help, everyone.

Congratulations on the new acquisition. :thmbsp:

The cartridge should be still be good, the stylus should be replace ASAP.

You should not take the chance of damaging your good record with a chipped /cracked stylus.

To check the diamond stylus tip, a microscope of at least 200X is required.

You can still get an after market replacement stylus for the Denon DL-60 if you want to.
