Design Acoustics PS-10 Speakers

The Aileens Tacky glue is actually the preferred glue around here for woofer surrounds, ive done 3 sets of Design Acoustics ( PS9 / PS10 / PS1010 ) 2 I used Simply Speakers Glue which sets up fast but isnt forgiving. After talking to alot of people ive learned the Aileens is the way to go in the future.. Reach out if you have any questions I am very familiar with the speakers ( had 4 sets ) and still have 3 and listen to them often.. I also had a bum tweeter which I replace and also redid all the foams.

They are really great little speakers, Before you bolt them back together put a fitting washer in each of the holes, Makes for a much cleaner install and prevents the bolt from buryingView attachment 2416355 into the wood.

Very cool! I've got both sets running now and liking them quite a bit. I tracked down 1 set of grills, but the grommets don't seem to match up well with the grills or holes in the cases. Wondering if you have any tips on the grills.

Were the grills for the corerct version? I know there is early model PS10s and late Model PS10s. Do you have the potentiometer knob on the front and brown grills or black grills with a toggle switch on the back?

The grills are black, and the speakers have the knob on the front. The posts on the grills seem fine, it's the separate grommets that seem to be the issue. They're just a tad oversized to fit in the holes in the speakers but no issue with the grommets capturing the posts on the grills.

Hmm not 100% sure on that, If it helps heres a picture of my grills next to my grommets ( maybe it will shed some light on whats going on ).

Mine are the newer style with a rocker switch on the back ( No Knob ) on front but the rest should be similar, The brown grilled ones were a tad different.

I grabbed these "PS-10" grommets off ebay because the black grills wouldn't snugly fit into the speaker cabinet holes and seemed like something was missing. Plus the tweeter round frame edge and screw heads appeared to interfere with the grill.

Each hole on the speaker side should have a gromit ( seen in pic ) but the grills just have plastic pegs. If the grommets are missing from the speaker then they will not fit correctly.

Looking back at your pics it looks like your missing some grommets which would explain the loose fit.

If you cant find similar grommets on ebay you could probably just wrap black electrical tape around the pegs to make them a little fatter and snug when you press them in. It would be cheap to test and completely reversible until you found the proper parts.

I just joined AK specifically for the info that's on this thread. I recently purchased a pair of PS-10's (with the tweeter knob on the front) on FB Marketplace. I tested them as best as I could and they sounded fine. One looked like it had some mousture damage, but I went ahead and bought them and brought them home. However, when I got home and really dug into them I saw the full extent of the water damage on the one speaker, and was greeted with ample evicence that both had been used as mouse conduminums at some point.

The foam is completely missing from both woofers, one has a rusted driver, and both have been nibbled on. The "good" news is that the other speakers and crossovers seem salvagable. The boxes are both biohazardous and beyond restoring.

I also own a Sylvania SCT6732k stereo console from the mid to late 1970's. It was well cared for and I was surprised that everything except the 8-track player works without issue. Both paper woofers are blown however. My question is this: Could I pull the crossovers and smaller speakers from the PS-10s and use them to replace the crossovers and small speakers in the console? The PS-10 seem to be 8 ohm, and from what I can tell the built-in amplifier is 8 ohms as well. I'm looking at getting a pair of 8' Goldwood Sound GW-208/8 replacement speakers for the blown woofers in the console.

Am I on the right track, or should I leave the original crossovers in the console alone and just replace the blown woofers? Thanks!!
