Platter material came today, cant wait to get it on the lathe,

12" diameter and about 3" thick.

wow, DIY TT I have tried that and failed a few years back... Please keep us posted with your project.

Don't worry mate, the other side of the world has it's wafflers too.

Cant just paint strip the bell and let the lathe do the rest?
If its cast, you are going to have to coat it with something when you're done (powder coat?)

Danny.

Edit. I was a bit slow on the powder coat.

The end bell is realy a stand in for a while, its almost perfect as is. I have a sand blaster, will take minutes to clean off. Powder coat seems like the easiest thing to use.

That's a really neat idea and should be a real head-turner! I've been following this thread, wish I was able to do that sort of machine work. The powercoating sounds like a great idea.

Best Regards,

Hanging a unipivot arm from a magnet instead of putting it on a point? I have been thinking about doing that myself, you could drop the wire right out the bottom opposite the pivot point to minimize pulling on the arm.

Looking better all the time. I am considering adding a bevel to both top and bottom of mine. I've got to figure out how the sonographe platter will integrate before i start turning things over thanksgiving.

That is great work Edd. Is that the whole chunk of aluminum you had chucked up in the lathe? Or did you wack of what you had milled in the pic? Still interested in seeing what you have in mind for an arm. Are you going to design and build your own or use an established arm or design?

Beautiful work! Wish I had a lathe at work with a throat that big. Looking forward to seeing everything mocked up and the finished table.
