Diy TT project

got the platter on the plinth, its sitting a bit tall.

also found something that might work as an arm pod or motor pod.

I tested the ipod drive with the stepper, platter is up to speed in about 3 seconds and seems to pose the motor no issues.

Very cool looking stuff. I really like the arm pod. Do you have one more for the motor??? All that stuff would look good on a slab of redwood model base about 2" think. This is most likely beyound the point of no return, but could you hog out the underside of the platter to allow it to sit lower on the plinth? Great work.

The height is easily solved if i need to, shorter shaft, trim some off the housing and shaft housing.

I think thats the only thing that looks like that about, i may find another. I just walked past it today in the scrap pile and thought "ooooooooo"

"OOOOOOO" indeed. Very cool piece. The platter would look more "right" about .2577" from the fins.

While making the bearing i left everything as long as possible, its much easier to remove material than add it lol.

The cool looking thing is a bearing carrier from a vertical hollow shaft motor, i know this, because dad told me it was.

I did find another one very similar, about 1/2 the height which will make a nice motor pod.

NO ****, that is bad ass! Where are you going to grab the platter with a band?
Can you make a groove, maybe two motors? Or are you going to use tape?
Man wish I were back in a shop.

With a groove in the pully you dont realy need one on the platter. Im not sure what ill use for the belt, right now im just testing with some oring material.

I have 10 motors, but i think 1 will work fine.

Im still thinking about how to have the platter on the plinth, i like the countersunk into the fins idea, but since its realy just a stand in untill i make a base i dont want to spend that much time on it.

I think Newman was using 1/4" reel to reel tape.

I have thousands of feet of ugly belt laying around here. It makes a better belt than it does a music medium.

Gotcha, with a groove @ motor, it'll ride true.
That isn't the final plinth? What a shame, I love it.
Don't hog out antyhing then. You just need some
kind of a buffer/skirt, keep it industrial, please.

At the moment im trying to use things i have around to keep costs down. This is still very much in the proof of concept phase. Im still learning how to use the lathe etc, ive never made anything like this before so its a matter of make each piece at a time and see if it works like it was intended too.

Because i used an off the shelf shaft, any base/plith with that shaft i can just drop the platter and bearing on to it. Ill probably end up with 2 or 3 by the time im done.

I realy like the Davinci In Unison turnable. With dnewma04s modeling this is kind of what im aiming to build.

The base will be cast from epoxy granite.
