I don't think it's creepy. It is AI and par for it's course, leveling down to the lowest common denominator. It is mathematically modeling of data, software running on huge computers, data centers, following a program. It is not conscious, does not generate original thought, it is programmed and provides programmed responses to anticipated questions, query, following algorithms. In a sense a slide rule is designed to do that for, example, an engineer designing a circuit. With AI one is in a feedback loop with a machine posing as intelligent on the verge of going conscious, having consciousness. One can ask to what end but that, nearing consciousness, singularity, is a ruse. Anyway, that's my view of it. Can't say I don't 'use' it, or being used by it, it, AI, has insinuated, been installed in all areas of life, more and more. It is okay to wonder, ponder apart from it. One of the Moody Blues songs has in the lyrics... You're Magnetic Ink... and the pondering in the song flows around that pronouncement. Very good song from a very good group.
Not to worry, there's a switch for that. The dead give away that they aren't human is the lack of guile.
Indeed, and well done.
They need permission to drive you crazy and it's easily given under the influence of frustration. It's an act of surrender.I've always thought that the answer to that Zen riddle is this:

One doesn't have to listen to a weatherman to know its raining outside but curiosity would lead one to look out the window to see for themselves. Curiosity is human. We are in the early days of AI, which at this point is just a language model. It is not thinking. It does not seem to be augmenting human intelligence, but poorly taking its place.

As your wife is also waiting for her perfect AI hunk ?!I'm waiting for my perfect "AI Babe!"
But who do the powers that be cater to? The same handful of people in these threads that have AI living in their heads, or what appears to be the majority that understand that it's here to stay so up "your" learning curve to live with itI still firmly believe that Art Intel information should be an 'opt in' thing, just like Jason has set up at diyAudio (the extra step to go see it).

My son sent me this; says he asked AI for a pic of me "defeating audio". Hopefully that's not a Tannoy bookie I'm ready to toss

Yes. All of it. This is not some small incremental evolution of tech.If you, or me, or any person talented at painting sat down, it might take them several days to a week or more of dedicated effort to paint a picture like that in oil. Now, you can have AI fart one out in 3 milliseconds, and do it over and over until it is "just right". From this point on, why would any human artist create any image knowing it would never be appreciated as a unique piece of art, or for the work and dedication it required. Nobody would know, or perhaps even care that a stupid human wasted their time creating it. AI takes over art, and human pursuit of that discipline disappears overnight (along with careers and even hobbies.)
If you deal in information, work a phone, do customer service, technical support, data entry, point of sale, anything that involves talking and typing, your job is going away. We used to have manufacturing, now we're reduced to a "service economy", and AI is now prepared to completely take that over too. All of your jobs, unless they require skilled "hands on" are going away. What will replace them? Even the "hands on" jobs will soon be going away- they already use robotic surgeons, and self driving cars. Pretty soon we will be conditioned to trust that "computer pilot" over a fallible, old slow human pilot.
Right now we fritter and joke lightly about AI, like standing on the railroad tracks musing about the light in the distance, not understanding the tectonic change about to happen in all of our lives and livelihoods.
And it doesn't want wages or benefits or display attitudes or resist program changes, people do. AI will simply do what it's told to do, and yes, dexterity is developing and improving at a rate par with technology able to do and exceed human capacity, robots. It is and will be in direct competition with us, people, humans in every way.If you, or me, or any person talented at painting sat down, it might take them several days to a week or more of dedicated effort to paint a picture like that in oil. I'm sure someone at Nvidia is working on that. The dead give away that they aren't human is the lack of guile.
