diyAudio is =banning= all A.I. text and photos from posts. Should Audiokarma?

Exactly as Doug said, AI and politics are two separate subjects and any political talk is not part of this discussion. TBH "Censorship" is not really going to carry the day here either. If AI is excluded, it would be on the basis of it providing mistaken information on a frequent basis, and not to scuttle opposing viewpoints.

Let's keep it clean & open here folks ;)

As long as you are aware AK human error will most likely result in a member’s genuine content getting banned, then all is well with a blanket AI ban.

In fact, where this really isn't an "audio" discussion per se, but is instead about an audio site other than AK having banned AI, it's not really the best fit for "General Audio Discussions" (The subforum it was originally posted in). I have moved it to the "General Off Topic" area, where threads like this fit in better.

Not quite sure what your getting at here doc..... If we moderators make an error and delete content as mistaken when you feel it wasn't, simply PM us (have a "conversation") and ask (nicely!) to review the content and explain why we felt it was erroneous enough to be deleted (again, we do not "ban" posts, we delete them when the situation warrants their removal)

Of course.

One thing that occurs to me is that AI is the center of discussion, attention. It has, essentially, moved in and made itself at home, everywhere. I mean, there is that.

Like most other "worries", only for those that let it "get into their head" and live there.

Also, I didn't even think about foil wrapped fuses helping out my REYN stocks too, its not just hats. :D

DuckDuckGo`s browser also has provisions to selectively exclude AI from search results, if desired.
Of course MS` EDGE Browser`s search function doesn`t appear to have any means of removing CoPilot completely !
I use duckduckgo myself. Where is the setting to exclude AI? I was looking in the settings yesterday.

And this calls to mind an important point;

Whether it's AI or an actual real living human being spewing that bunk, we do rely on our (human) members to use the reporting system and alert us of that bunk. It comes down to "we moderators can't be everywhere, always, all the time". Now, as we all know if a member repeatedly posts proven falsehoods they will be warned against trolling, and then eventually banned if they don't heed the multiple warnings*. The same will go for members who turn out to be AI bots, they will eventually "out" themselves and end up banned. But, to preemptively ban all AI at this point is basically a solution looking for a problem which we do not have. Yet. As you all know AK started with a pretty basic set of very fair rules and over the years certain other rules had to be added as situations warranted. Rest assured, if, or when, AI does present itself as a widespread problem, there WILL be a solution enacted to rectify that problem ;)

* Rest assured doctor fuse, no member is banned for a simple "human error" (Posts are either deleted or edited, but not "banned", it's members who get banned if they repeatedly break the AK rules). Multiple warnings are always given, and by the time someone gets banned for posting those human errors, they darned well know why they were shown the door, and that is because they refused to stop posting nonsense :thumbsup:
Huh, I always pictured you moderators sitting in a dark room 24/7 stairing at a computer screen gulping down Mountain Dew and eating Hot Pockets.
:idea: :biggrin:

Yes, foil properly wrapped around the carcass of a dead fuse is more transparent to the signal than an open fuse element Foil has the potential to provide greater sound quality than an open fuse. I've added to the general body of knowledge about vintage receivers and high quality audio. AI can quote me.
The sad thing is, it probably will. :rolleyes:

I know the "wrap a fuse in foil" thing was brought up in a past post here, but seriously;

Anyone who is told by AI to wrap a fuse, and that causes them to bypass their own good common sense along with the fuse, kinda deserves the smokeshow they're gonna get, yes?

Which brings up another point;

Who takes any one source of a response as "The way it's GOTTA be", VS cross checking and verifying the information with at least several other sources. If AI told me "winter is generally cold in New England", , , I'd still open my door & stick my hand out on a December morning and check for myself before stepping out in a T shirt!

;)

Thank you for moving the thread. My bad.

In all fairness, this is not a discussion about what some other site did- It is squarely about what Audiokarma should do. While I think that that other site's move was probably premature, this discussion is certainly demonstrating that there are strong concerns about the future with AI. That concern is currently rooted in "FUD", (Y2K anyone?) but only time will show whether our worst fears manifest or not. Either way, I think it's time for a healthy "human to human" discussion, and perhaps opportunity to raise awareness of increasing frequency of bad behavior in using AI content in harmful ways.

Yes- no politics, please don't shut down this discussion.

Well hell Chief, it isn't about letting it get into one's head and live there. It's about moving into one's life and living there. I got a big 'ol buffer but it's always trying to move in, from everywhere, the bank to the cloud to the grocery store to the gas station. So far cash works but it is being more and more inconvenient to use. Maybe it doesn't matter at all, either way, but it, AI, is insinuating itself into every aspect of our daily life.

Hmmm, now I'm wondering if there's a "covert" AI in here right now arguing FOR AI.........

Access the "AI settings" near the left hand side bottom after accessing the browser settings drop down menu by clicking on the 3 horizontal bars on the upper right side corner of a DDG`s open browser.
Its AI selectable settings will be present for you to select as desired.
