Anyone know who can repair open reel decks? I am in Rockville. Thanks

unfortunately you are in a vintage audio repair desert. especially when it comes to tape machines. there are a few places you can travel to in a day or two to take your stuff to someone, but I have tried them all, and the last great guy with tape decks place closed and he retired. took three deficient tape decks to him and never had a problem after. It's easier to find tech that work on amps/receivers/pre amps. tape decks scare a lot of people lol.
I met @ehoove a year or so back near a place in Annandale that I believe was working on his R-R deck ...
Hopefully he can pop in with more specifics ... if they are still a going business (so many folks retire and go away).
FWIW - I am in Fairfax, VA.
I would call Mike at High End Audio Repair in Camp Springs. Yeah it's a 45 min drive with no traffic, but what're ya gonna do. I bet he can fix it. I saw reel to reel decks among other things to be worked on his shelves when I dropped my C-50 back off for some work. He also provides a warranty on the work, which is nice. Class guy. He'll be straightforward over the phone with you whether he can work on it or not.
Can only speak from my experience of course, but I trusted him with my 1959 tube amp setup and my yamaha gear.

The old technician from Deja Vu, a young kid named Wil, is the new tech at Archer.
FYI I did see Mike at Hi End Audio Repair in Camp Springs again today to pick up and drop off more stuff - remembering this thread I confirmed he does work on reel to reel systems, and I did see a couple of models on his shelves to be worked on.

I live close to the Rockville Metro. Where are you at? We can compare systems!
I’m over by Twinbrook metro. I have a group of real life friends who do HiFi and we rotate hosting listening and food ordering sessions…next time I host I’ll hit you up. Hope you aren’t allergic to pet fur

I mean "worst" case scenario is pizza? Unless that would be a no go :O Although usually the non Rockvillians want to do asian food given our status as a chinatown

I had a friend that was building/fixing gear for Deja Vu. He patched up some of my stuff but he passed away a couple years ago.
Art, British guy. Really knew his stuff.
