Does Anyone Have This Lens?

.....anybody have a monopod they'd suggest that has swivel-head in all directions, and is tall enough to get the camera in the face of someone 5'10"?....is there such an animal?.....

Blarney... It's time for you to pull the trigger...

Just buy one.... Try it out and let us know what is best for you.

gitzo, manfrotto etc all make good monopods. Go to a camera store and check them out!

Dave

Yes you're right you could crop down a full fream camera image and get a more "zoomed" image but right now the d700 and d300 are the same number of mp so if you were to crop the quality would go down in this case.

.....am about to pull some triggers, Mikey.....

Yeah, well hurry it up. I am waiting.

Go Gitzo if you can afford it after you buy and send me your new lens. I don't need the Gitzo since I already have one. :D

.....Echosphere, the monopod would be for my daughter using my D200 with a heavy 24-70 of her own.....

I'm not talking about the monopod in particular, but all the questions that you've asked for all the gear. Hope you get a chance to test them out and report back! :thmbsp:

I'm not quite sure that is correct.

.....I'm going to get a 24-70 for sure....as I believe I mentioned earlier, I'm building a system for my daughter with her using my D200, as well as a retirement system for me....I already have a current AF 50 1.4....a 24-70 will be purchased for sure, and I'm thinking about following the Nano Coat Road with a 70-200....my daughter and I are five minutes from each other and could swap out those two lenses daily if need be.....

.....is there anyone following this thread who has experienced both Nikon DX and Nikon FX?....I ask you to report, especially if FX had better picture quality to you....has anyone read an article with comparative shots between FX and DX that could be linked?.....

Which FX body? D700? That is the one I am planning for.
.....Jesse, I'm going into retirement, I've loved photography since I was 30 years of age, and I've honestly scrimped my whole working life except for a few toys....the railroad hasn't given out gold retirement watches for a long time now, but I'm thinking about giving myself one, so to speak....the wife concurs.....

.....Ehegwer, which Nikon body do you use professionally?.....

Sorry for the delay in responding - I didn't know how to subscribe to threads - got it figured out now.

Digital - I use the D3 a lot, but also have a D700, and a couple of D200's for remotes.

35mm Nikon film work is with a pair of F5's that I just love. (yep I still push a lot of film through my cameras)

Just cropping a digital image (full frame or not) will not affect the quality of the image. It just makes the overall cropped image smaller. It would be like taking an 8x10 print and cropping it by taking it to the paper cutter. Quality or resolution did not change just the print size. Nor did the magnification factor for making the print. However, if you were to enlarge the print several times from, let's say and 8x10 print size, to crop and "zoom" into the print through enlargement, then yes, quality would probably suffer as you are enlarging the film grain to a level where their may be image degradation.

Digital, however, (unless you alter the resolution settings) just cropping the digital image will not affect the image quality unless you blow it up to a point where the pixels now come into play. Much like blowing up a negative to a print size where the grain of the film also comes into play.

You said it much better than me in greater detail. Thanks! :thmbsp:

First, never compare MP to MP for two different camera's from different companies. MP really means nothing when taking in the whole of the camera image. It would be like comparing a Mini Cooper with 250hp and a Mini Van with 250hp.

They'll have different sensor technology and different processors, etc. Now that will make the biggest difference.

Is FX better than DX? YES! At my University I compare and test digital camera's from Nikon and the FX is better. Image quality and color.

Is FX more expensive and is that why it is in the top of the line of Canon and Nikon? Heck yes.

Which one should I buy? FX if you have the money. DX if you want to save and invest in better lenses.

What would echosphere do in your shoes? Buy an FX camera and the 24-70 with the fixed aperture (I LOVE fixed minimum apertures in zoom lenses!). Then later I would buy a zoom lens.

After that, what should I do? Get off the boards and go shoot your brains out with your awesome new gear! :D

.....wow....taking pictures for a living....I understand no job is all roses, but....so a D3 is your workhorse, huh?....interesting....thanks, Ehegwer.....

.....good to see, Echosphere, thanks....do you compare and test Nikon Lenses for the university?....if so, do you think the picture quality with any AF Nikon zoom would be "as good" as AF Nikon fixed-lenses?....
