Dual 1257 vs Philips GA 312? Which is better?

Sounds like the Phillips are catching it because peeps make shoddy records the engineers didn't plan for.

Comments I've heard from 212/312 owners have all been positive. May be picking one up this evening and fixing a POWER switch.

Sold my Dual CS 521, which I liked quite a bit, and kept the Phillips GA 212 Electronic. Easy fix with the power switch, and I understand why it was called the "poor man's Thorens".

Had a 312 with a Stanton 681 eee and it was a very very nice sounding combo . Would be happy with it today . No doubt.

Of that list, I’ve had about 5 212s and 312s over the years. I quite like Philips. They sound better than they should considering the plastic, and I love that mid century modern look they have! I also like the Hitachi 460, and I really like Duals. If I had a choice, I would likely go for a dual, but it would need to be an Idler, or a direct drive. I don’t really care that much for Dual’s belt drives. Btw, I just had a Philips 312 and a dual 1216, and I still have a 1209 and two 1019s.
