That chrome stuff looks like stick on chrome trim. Not anything ground breaking but looks cool. I wonder if it gets loose after exposure to all that heat.

I gotta wonder why you go to the trouble of the paint and output txn covers and all yet leave the holes and plugs on top. Since he had to do the prep to paint work anyway it wouldn't have been that much more to bondo the holes before painting.

Objectively how could it sound? Good ( since it seems to have been updated-modernized-improved) or just be Ok sonic wise (as it was a cheap build to begin with) and thus the main interest is it looking so retro cool?

I'd imagine the internals were updated as needed for reliability. If all of the components were scrapped for new, you'd think he would have mentioned that in the description. Probably sounds as good as new, which as we know, is quite good indeed when it comes to these console pulls.

Its a $200 amp, that I can't argue but what he has transformed it into isn't an amp, its a piece of art. Well worth what his opening bid is in my opinion. I'd rather spend $$$ on this than snake oil cables and such...

Agreed, some serious work went into this. I don't think he is getting a large return on the time he invested or the intellectual capital. It's gorgeous, whether sonically it is as good as it looks, I don't know. This is a very nice piece of work. Considering what he started with, this is quite nice!

So these are my friend's amps. He's going to join the site but had some problems. He's based out of NJ.

After I saw his work I bought myself a Magnavox el84 and a Magnavox 6v6 amp but haven't had the time to do any appearance work. I've just been replacing caps and resistors. I'm very impressed with the sound quality on these old amps.

Hopefully he can join soon and post more pictures of some of his other work. He's made a few that IMO look even nicer than the amps posted.
