Econowaves, but which drivers?

I think I am about to build a pair of Econowaves. What I want to achieve is lots of dynamics and headroom. I want to be able to play pretty much all kinds of music at realistic SPL. My room is about 16sqm.

Which drivers should I chose? I have a budget of $2000-2400 for upgrading my whole audio system, including main speakers, subwoofers, amplifiers, crossovers, dsps and such.

I've seen Gainphile's Econowaves and they look interesting. What is the minidsp good for? How does it improve the sound?

I guess the Ewaves wont go really low. I want decent output down to about 30Hz so I suppose subwoofers will be needed. But that is for another thread...

Some people say the Selenium DT220Ti is bad and that B&C 250 is a much better choice. Regarding woofers I have no clue but I guess 15" is a little too big, maybe 12" would be more like it?
Planning to buy all the drivers from www.thomann.de if possible, but it's okay with other shops in Europe as well.
 
May I suggest using a Eminence woofer? In the states these are popular and quite good! Plus they are available from thomann, though I checked in the UK. and go with the selenium HF, maybe attenuate with an Lpad. I have been looking for a likely candidate to Ewave as well.

I was looking into some BMS drivers as they looked quite promising....In fact, I was in talks with "Jack",one of the members of BMS to acquire some 4550 drivers and almost had a deal made "UNTIL" I mentioned that I was a member here at AK...
It appears there was a "group buy" from this website some time ago to get a discount on a bunch of drivers.Appearently there was some type of non-payment issue from one of the members and he dropped me like I had the Plague :yikes:. No further response to emails,,nothing! I was a bit dissapointed because I had heard good things about BMS drivers and wanted to giv'r a go but was not to be.......If you do try to look into getting some of these ,don't mention your a member here :no: and you might have luck.
 
I'd love to build a pair someday using something like this for the woofer...

I have made and use the E-Wave standard kit and it is a great speaker. I can not tell you how much more performance for the money you will get out of the more expensive drivers though.
 
I really like useing the JBL LE14H-X for the bottom. As far as tops I went the JBL 1.5" exit route. Quite a bit more money tho, but sounds really nice.:yes:
 
would that not depend on your boxes parameters, and the amount of money you want to spend? I would go with the Delta or Delta LF, as I have had good luck with entry level Eminence speakers. but you could go for the Alphas if you wanted to spend more money, or you want to throw a lot of power at them. I would go with least expensive option after all they are ECONOwaves! :)

Yeah, maybe... Leaves me with more money for subwoofers, amplifiers, dsp and stuff.

It seems like the non-lf is a little more hi-fi but wont play as much bass as the lf does. The non-lf has higher sensitivity and will probably play louder than the lf but with less bass and lower xmax. And the lf version moves about 2x as much air as the non-lf.

What would be a recommended high-pass xo for the lf version ewaves and non-lf version ewaves?

I was planning on using the ewaves down to maybe 60-70Hz and I want to play even really bass-heavy tracks at pretty realistic levels (think of Kari Bremnes - Live)
 
But are they available in europe?

In one forum thread, someone asked about shipping 4 drivers to the Netherlands and he was told to send his address and they would give him a shipping quote so I am assuming they could ship them to you as well. It's easy enough to send them a note and ask them.

I think I'll go with either the Eminence Delta12 or Delta12LF. What about the Deltalite 2512?
