Econowaves, but which drivers?

I got mine at www.usspeaker.com. I went with the 4555 though. 1.5"

The hard part was getting the JBL wave guides with the 1.5" throat.. back ordered for a month or more if I remember right..
 
Is that a bolt mounted driver? If so, you have to get a wave guide with mounting holes, or at least one you can drill and mount the driver to.

as far as what kind of box, you need to know what kind of woofer you will be using first, then figure out what kind of box would be best suited for it. Or, you could decide what kind of box you will be using, then look for the best suited woofer...

Myself, I decide on the woofer first, then try and figure out the best box for it.

Bolt mounted driver, I have no idea. I'm a total novice.

I've decided to go with the Eminence Delta 12A woofer.
 
Beats me. Unless you use a compression driver and waveguide that someone has already measured and designed a crossover for, you're kind of on your own. It should certainly be possible to get it to work well, with measurements.
 
If I remember right, the horns for an econowave don't work so well with adaptor plates for bolt on CD's and screw on guides. at least once measuring them..
 
Alright.. So if I go with the above recommended horn and the Celestion 1745 I'll be on my own regarding XO?

Do you recommend me going Selenium D220Ti or B&C 250 instead? I'm a total beginner when it comes to XO and such. I've built one speaker before and that was a simple 1-way.
 
Your best bet is going to be to go to the econowave thread and ask if anyone else has used the woofer and compression driver you have chosen, then pick their minds about what kind of box they used, how it was tuned, what wave guide they used, and the crossover.

There are SOOOOoooooo many ways of building the econo's that someone has chosen what you are, or at least can give you some better ideas....

I just happened to get very lucky and Zilch helped me out with the crossover, and box modeling, and wave guide, but I stumped the hell outta him with my driver choices. We did get a pretty fantastic sounding pair of speakers built though over long distance.

There should be people in that thread that can do the same for you. I have no clue unless you use what I did. Then I can give you ideas.

The QSC waveguide combined with the B&C DE250 is well documented in the Ewave thread, as the Ewave Deluxe. Highly recommended!:thmbsp:

Sticking with a proven design is the easiest route to success. IMO, the DE250 is much smoother than the D220Ti. No idea on the Celestion.
 
IMO don't waste time and money with the 220Ti if the B&C DE250 driver is a consideration for your project. I'll echo the others- it's a superior driver and coupled with makes a very audible improvement.
 
I just realized the Celestion mentioned (1745) is actually the CD used in the QSC HPR-152i speaker that the ewave deluxe waveguide is borrowed from - so it's pretty safe to say it works.

Alright, but still the Celestion is way cheaper than the B&C and should have pretty much as good SQ if I remember correctly?

Where can I find crossover information about that?
 
Everything about mounting Celestion on waveguide and measurements can be seen by clicking a link i posted before.

You need adapter from bolt-on to srew-on. It works very well, measurements confirmes it.

Whatever midbas/tweeter combination you intend to use, you are on your own regarding xover.... unless you make one of the projects from TechTalk - Flex your PCD mettle thread.

Since you've asked only for components available in europe, i don't know where will you find QSC waveguides for it. This is why i recomended Celestion to you.

If you don't have measuring equipment, you should contact Gainphile. He did that measurements and he can tell you more of xover he uses.

Thanks! Where can I find those adapters?

I'll contact Gainphile. My build is pretty much like his except for me using the Celestion tweeter instead of the D220Ti.
