ELAC Miracord TT -share all about 'em

How do you take the shipping screws off? Or, are they supposed to stay on? I just noticed it when I took the platter off, seller didn't even tighten the shipping screws. When powered on, platter rotates but I'd like the screws taken off.

Leave them alone. Their function is to tighten the metal base to the plinth for transport. Once set up in the new working environment, loosen so as to let the spring/ damper assemblies carry the weight of the whole functioning assembly & help dampen vibrations between the actual tt & plinth. Don't overthink shiite. You can't remove these screws unless you pull the clips underneath. This should tell you something.

I'm not so sure that those loose screws hanging from the chassis is a good idea. I have had several Miracords and none of them had the shipping screws left in place.

If they were threaded to the metal chassis like the DUAL turntable shipping screws, then I'd say leave them, but not if they just hang there

Just installed audio technica at120e cartridge and a vmn10cb stylus, amazing sound from my 50H!!! I had to put a shim under the cartridge to raise the tone arm a bit. After reading all the horror stories of the headshell breaking, I'm not removing the cartridge at all, only the stylus when it wears out.

Did they glue the bottom panel? Staple?? Slide it out??? I have no idea how they attached it. Anyone know how to remove the bottom panel?

I think you just slack off those screws and tilt them out of the way and lift the turntable out of the base. Of course it is more complicated than that since there are the power and RCA cords which may be secured to that base.
Bases were sold separately from the tables back then, so there are a bunch of different types out there - a couple of different styles/price levels and national origins. So even an overwhelming consensus may mislead you.

Okay, it's two votes for leaving them in (@CT Jim and @Catmanboo ) and one vote against (@malden ). I guess I will just leave them in, it doesn't hurt anything.

Actually, when they are tightened down, there's less rumble that I hear.
When screws are run all the way down flush with the metal frame, they allow the suspension to float on the spring/ damper foams. When backed out all the way (CCW), the clips on the hidden end of the screws pull the whole thing tight to the plinth, thus compressing the suspension bits & the whole unit becomes effectively one big piece. All my elacs ( I think 4 or 5), iirc are the same setup. If you want, I can send a pic of the relevant section from my 50h or 770h owners manual, once located, I'm pretty sure I know where they are.

The transit screws are not meant to tie down the table to the base and remain in that position during use. Doing so removes the ability of the spring suspension to allow the table to ‘float’. I don’t understand how perceived rumble can be less when you turn the components into a single mass? Download the manual from available sources and read the instructions, so you can understand better how the pieces work in relation to each other.

If the baseplate is coupled to a large mass, the motor vibrations will be minimized, since the force they apply to the base has to accelerate a very large mass, so the acceleration is minimized. Bolting down Lencos and the big Garrards seems to be a common improvement, but I don't see it as much with changers.

No pictures? The thing has to come off or you wouldn't be able to service the table. Does the table lift out of the base when the shipping screws are loosened? Maybe that's how you do it.
