Electro Voice speakers?

I thank you SO SO much for your help on the ID of these speakers, In your opinion, how do they rate to you? I might be able to pick up pretty cheap, my buddy sent the pics to me and asked me if I wanted them... :scratch2: Now Ill have to get a price from him..... thanks again...Michael... :thmbsp:

Cheap is a relative term, for those cheap would be $250. I have heard aristocrats with just the single 12" and they were superb but with the mid, tweeter and larger? box they would have to be even better.

Let us know what you friend is asking. brainsmasher is right, cheap to you might not be cheap to me. Make sure that all the drivers and x-over are EV. Not that it matters if you like the way they sound, but it might effect value.

Edit: The more I look at them Im not sure if that is a cutout for a 15" woofer, maybe a 12 but I could be wrong. The mid horn is vert. and not hor. so they might be a nice DIY cabinets to Regency (or close) dims. Hard to say for sure. they look nice. :thmbsp:

Those are regencies, and they are 3 way with 15" woofer, T10 or T25 mid horn, and T35 or T35b tweeter, X8 and X36 crossover. That is a lot of presumption on my part, but you can tell that they have 3 drivers by the fact that they have both the presence and brilliance pots on the side. I have one regency at home and have been looking for a mate. How come I never have buddies wanting to get rid of some? :sigh: Those are some nice sounding speakers. They need to be located in corners to produce the full amount of bass that they are capable of. As mentioned, make sure that all drivers are present, and hopefully working. The t35 diaphragms can be replaced if they are blown. The T10/T25 are much much harder to come by.

FWIW, the guys are right on the money. Those speakers are BIG, but will sound great, especially fed with tubes.
And $250 really is cheap, especially if they are the 3 ways with horns. Our buddies overseas would ( and have
) pay triple that for the bare drivers.
Those are on the list of big old speakers I've sold, but would love to have set to feed tubes on now, along with the Altec Carmels and JBL L-300s.
FWIW, I believe the front grill slides on and is held in place with a few screws angled in from the lower edge.
If you don't want them, let me know and I'll have my bro snag them for me and drop them off at Mommas' house :yes:

I think that Markus111 nailed the drivers but Im wondering about the enclosure.
The mid-horn orientation is wrong for the Regency's that I have found. Might just be a Empire cabinet or baffle. They used the same drivers more or less but the cabinet wasnt as wide by a small margin.
I think I spending too much time on this :scratch2:

The 8-HD horn is a diffraction horn and was designed such that the widest horizontal dispersion is with the long axis placed vertically although EV used the horn placed both vertically and horizontally.
In practice I don't think it makes much difference which way it's placed and in any event it's not (IMO) one of the better sounding horns out there, if possible I'd replace one with an Altec 811B.
