Electronic music for great listening

I believe ya'll are talking about synthesised music.
However noone has mentioned "Isao Tomita". Born in 1932 and produced through the 60s and maybe farther. "Snowflakes are Dancing" is my favorite. However many others are of exceptional quality. Much of the music is much older tunes though.
Naturally anything cranked to 11 should be wonderful.
 
I have been a fan of electronic music for years. I have a Dick Hyman and Robert Moog LP that is the first or very close to first synthesizer LP. I also have a disc of music by Raymond Scott, he worked with Mr Moog in the 1950's. His music is used in the Ren and Stimpy cartoons along with older classic cartoons.

Another "new" group I have not seen mentioned is Ozrick Tentacle, they are tied in with Modern Sounds of London some how. Ozrick has a harder sound, both are excellent real LOUD.
 
If you like dark, atmospheric electronic music, I can't recommend the British dubstep artist Burial enough. He makes some of my favorite music for late at night, or rainy days.

If you a) haven't dipped your toe in since Eno/Kraftwerk/Tangerine Dream, b)
you think it's just background music for hip restaurants and pretentious bars, or c) you like incredible music, these ten modern classics are essential (all available in superb vinyl pressings, btw):

Burial - Untrue (brilliant amalgam of R&B-esque vocals, syncopated beats set against beautiful, dark backgrounds)
Ricardo Villalobos - Alcachofa (what a talent; I can only describe his music the sound of cells dividing, amplified)
Fennesz - Endless Summer (a genius' abstract musings inspired by the Beach Boys)
William Basinski - The Disintegration Loops (using old tape loops as his 'instrument', makes epic tracks ; the story behind this work, compiled as the WTC collapsed is must-read)
Max Richter - Blue Notebooks (classically trained composer/pianist makes great concept album)
Murcof - Martes (strings, morphing, subtle beats, from a Mexican? just get it)
Dan Deacon - Spiderman of the Rings (imagine if Philip Glass had been commissioned to do the soundtrack for Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory)
The Field - From Here We Go Sublime (perfect music for a rave in the middle of Antartica or the Kalahari)
M83 - Dead Cities, Red Seas and Lost Ghosts (one of the most 'cinematic' records I've heard in a while)
Lindstrom - Where You Go I Go Too (space-disco masterpiece; the 1st track is 28 mins...and worth every minute)

sven vath, deadmau5 and sphongle will probably contribute the most to the party..
they are the best imo..
closely followed by john digweed, dubstep and then some aphextwin and maybe some eric prydz (in that order)

Boards of Canada - Pretty much all of it, I really tend to gravitate more towards the early stuff though

Being an old guy there is one ya missed. As I remember one of the first all electronic albums. Zygoat. Still drag it out now and then.

I saw Dosh live, he opened for and then played with Andrew Bird. I had never heard of Martin Dosh before, and he totally blew my mind. I was packed in a theatre (sellout crowd I believe) and yet I was able to feel almost totally alone with the music. I say almost because of the stupid girl sitting in front of me who texted her friend the entire time. Of course I read every single one of her messages, I really wanted to ask her about it during intermission.

Dosh was amazing live.

Also, I've seen some people mention M83. I have a total love hate relationship with them. Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts has more of an emotional impact on me than any other album I've heard. Their first album is great too. Once the two guys that were M83 split up, and it became a solo act, they kind of went down the tubes. Before the Dawn Heals us was salvageable, some good songs. There's only one or two tracks that I like on their most recent album. Sad... so sad.
 
During the time that I listened mostly to electronic music, for me it was ALL about Autechre and Aphex Twin. I was obsessed and fascinated by Autechre. Still have a bunch of their lps, though they're a little dusty. During that time period some of it was ground-breaking stuff.
