I just love mine.
Spent around the same.
I replaced the spring clamp cable inputs with banana clip type inputs from Human Speakers.
The passive radiator took a little to get used to but now that I've spent some time with them, they are exceptional speakers for low volume, which is what I listen to. Conversation level.
The Goldring tweeter is the magic with these. Just easy to listen to with great detail.
They have excellent dispersion and sound their best a couple of feet away from the back wall.
I tried replacing the capacitors with what Huw from Human Speakers suggested but found the original caps to actually sound better.
I'm powering mine with 75 watts per channel which is a perfect match for these.

It's another of the family of speakers built around Winslow Burhoe's module of his inverted dome tweeter mated with his naturally rolling off woofer. The most significant, in terms of sales, was probably the EPI 100. The tweeter is arguably the best from that era found in moderately priced speakers. The 200 b/c/v versions used increased cabinet volume and passive radiator to reach lower frequencies, as did some other models including some Genesis speakers. If you like them, they're worth it. In general the speakers with Mr. Burhoe's design are highly regarded, particularly in price-performance ratio.
There are several threads here on AK on these speakers. I have a recapped pair that I'll never sell.

I have a pair of EPI 200's, but don't know series 1,2 etc. Mine have the 12" passives, but I can't remember the original tweeters as they had come apart and I've since bought several inverted domes to use. Also the woofers were not original (radio shack polys if I remember). I have some Burhoe Red woofers which are similar to EPI's but with larger magnets and voice coils. Should I buy some EPI woofers, and if so, what are compatible models to work with the 200 cabinets?
The 8" EPI woofers were designed to roll off naturally where the tweeter took over with the intention of not requiring any crossover for the woofer. Don't know about the Reds which use a different tweeter. Any of the EPI 8" woofers would be a direct replacement. Get rid of the poly woofers. Why not try the Reds and see how you like them. Use Humanspeakers website to find compatible woofers. Seems the 200 uses the common 8" woofer that most EPI sport.
Any of the 8" EPI woofers will work fine, or a pair from Human Speakers, which some say, sound better. In the mean time, you can try the Burhoe Reds until you can find a suitable replacement.
