Epi / genisis speaker help

Yes. I really like how some of the bigger Pioneer receivers sound which EPI / Genesis. Those are very nice. Have them 100% working now? Recapped and sealed up?

The Pioneer SX-1010 is an especially good match with speakers like this. That's the most "musical" and dynamic sounding Pioneer receiver, IMHO. And, unlike many of the later Pioneer "monster receivers", it has no problem running 4 ohm loads, too...

Regards,
Gordon.

Did I mention I have a mint SX-1010 my father bought new? Love that amp. I've listened to it for almost 50 years now.

Drove my Magnapan MG-II's with it for years. People thought I was crazy for doing that, worked great. Bonnie Raitt "you don't love me" could make you cry on that system. Come to think of it but I believe it drove my M&K Goliath sub at the same time. Hummm. Maybe it was crazy ha ha ha.

When that SX-1010 was brand new it drove brand new Sansui SP-3000's AND Bose 901's at the same time. My brother introduced me to Led Zeplen, Hendrix, Queen and the like on that wall of thunder when my dad left the house. Good times.

The thing is trying to keep these speakers the way they left the factory. Modern rubber sounds are more stiff then these imho. The rubber on these are quite soft. Foam may be the way too go but they will never give that 100% original look. Wont going to foam though increase the efficiency of the woofers slightly?

Here are the serial numbers of mine. Too give an idea of how many could be out there. I'm assuming that it's the last 3 digits of that number. I don't think they made 10000 or 5000 matched pairs. Wierd in a way that instead of going like 750A - 750B to indicate a matched mirror imaged set its just a production serial number.

Have you thought of using rubber rejuvenator? It's made for treating rubber rollers and platens, but I've used it on quite a few things. It wasn't necessarily a good idea in each case. My usual trick with old rubber is to soak it in hot water; not really an option in this case. And chemicals would have to be applied very carefully, maybe with a small paint brush, and maybe from the back, with the driver facing down. Might be worth a try if the other option is replacement.

I recently got a pair of Genesis 2's. I love them, but partly for sentimental reasons, since my first speakers were Genesis 1's. But having had Genesis speakers brand new, I can say that yours will be very sweet indeed when you get them back to spec.

I'd also reiterate what others have said about Hu at Human Speakers. Keeping Genesis speakers working and making them the best they can be is kind of his mission in life, so it would probably be worth getting his input on those rubber surrounds.

I kind of miss my SX1010. I sold it 15 years ago, for what seemed to be ridiculously high money- a guy basically made me the proverbial "offer I couldn't refuse".

However, now, they seem to be worth even slightly more than what I got then...

I was offered a grand... nope. It's not about the money with this one for me.

So I ran them off a yamaha cr 1020. Fully restored. The receiver does not fit the rack as its wide and looks awkward. So went back to what I was using before nakamichi CA-5 and PA-5.
