I am looking at buying some EPI floor speakers. Don't know anything about them. Any insight on the speakers would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Lot's of info here:

(I see blue shadow beat me to it...)

The earlier ones, with the inverted dome tweeter, are excellent, using a sort of tweeter/woofer combo that was mixed and matched in different arrangements to create different speakers (I'm simplifying it, of course). They make some really nice speakers. I have Epicure 100 bookshelfs and the large 400+ omni-directional floor speakers, but need to refoam all eight woofers. Not looking forward to doing that.

As others have implied, if they have the inverted dome tweeter, almost certainly will be pretty good. I have a pair of Genesis 2+ that live in my living room and we love them.

I am a big EPY/Genesis fan. They were good boxes in their day and are easily repaired/refurbished today. Post the Model # and we'll know what you are looking at.

Good luck and enjoy.

Nice little speaks, at an affordable price. Look for a pair of 100s (preferably in walnut), and happy listening.

Old EPI's and Epicures are one of the few vintage speakers that can claim to have enough spare parts available. They basically used the same tweeters and woofers in all their speakers for more than 15 years with a few exceptions. This along with Human Speakers makes rebuilding and repairing these very painless when compared to say old Infinity's and AR's.

I just refoam'd some 180's. 4 woofers.. 1hr to clean em up, glue foam to the cone, let them sit overnight, wake up, hit em with 30hz and glue em to the basket. later that night i was listening to them.. that 8 inch woofer is magical, and that tweeter!

The Speakers are model 150. Looks like I might have to recover them. I might be able to pick them up for around 20 to 30 dollars. A deal?

I'll chime in with the rest, my EPI 100M's are brilliant.
$20-30 plus another $20 for new caps and/or woofer foams and you'll be grinning! :)

Currently using EPI A240's front, 180's center/mono surround and 202's as surround left / right in my home theater. Great speakers, and the A240's with the dual 10's are no slouch in the bass department. Always go for the inverted Air spring tweeter, I do have a pair of EPI T/E 320's, good speakers but were a pain to re foam and don't have that EPI air spring tweeter sound (have a soft dome instead). Over all, you'll be happy with what you get, and there easy to refoam the older models.
