Epicure Model 20+

Almost identical to EPI 201's. Obviously needs refoaming the woofers, and would strongly benefit from recapping the crossover (1st order, only one cap per tweeter). The ad indicates that one woofer is not original, so factor that in there as well (standard EPI part).

The asking price ($200) seems about right if the woofers were correct, and refoamed and recapped, but they're not. I wouldn't do much more than $100, and probably less with the woofer.

They will definitely fill the room with sound. However, it looks like one of the woofers is not original. Add to that the re-foam needed and I think the asking is a little high.

I have a pair of M-201's (pretty much the same thing but better cabinets) that sound great. Unfortunately, they bother my tinnitus. It's not the speakers, it's my ears. Recently listened to a pair of B&W matrix (forget the model #) that were AMAZING! They too sent my tinnitus into overdrive.

These are the ones I have. http://www.humanspeakers.com/e/epi201.htm

Those should be the 20. The 20+ had a half grille on the front with veneer on the bottom half as well as the tweeters were the metal backed black with a silver ring and Epicure name raised in the surface. What is shown are the earlier Masonite tweeters.

Humanspeakers has a page about these and you can see the crossover difference, too

Wonder if the seller reads AK... these are down to $100 now.

Hmm. These do not bother my own tinnitus. Different horses for different courses, I guess. I absolutely LOVE my pair. Go get these, you will not regret it.

I ended up dropping the drivers out of my Model 20's and put in the 201 cabs. Couldn't hear any difference, tho those "wooden wings" on the 201 might have some blockage of the tweeter, i don't hear it.

A truly great speaker.

Posting an update only b/c I saw the ad change; personally focusing on more bookshelfy things for home. Most of the ads on Columbus CL are boring lately, these and that copper Harman receiver (which is now being ad'd as "for parts") the only ads with 'character' right now.

$100 is a decent price for them, even with the replacement woofer. Of course, I'm a little biased. Listening to a pair of 201's right now. Because of the room they're in, I probably listen to them 5X's as much as the rest of my speakers combined.

Someone in the area would be well advised to grab these.

Even with one woofer non-original, 100 bucks for these in good shape is a great deal. I even have some grills if someone needed them, I'd give them away, tho shipping might be a pain.

I never understood why these go for so little. They're such a wonderful, unpretentious speaker.

I snagged these - I just happened across this post while searching for info about the speakers. The seller dropped the price again and I couldn’t resist. The “non-original” woofer is an Epicure part but it looks like it was refoamed at some point and whoever did the job slapped a gasket and a bigger dust cap on it for some reason. I have a set of 201s with cabinets and grilles that have seen better days so I borrowed the woofers and dropped them in the 20s so I can listen to them until I can refoam the originals. Not sure why they didn’t sell sooner since the grilles and cabinets are in excellent shape. I think the seller was underselling them a bit but I’m not complaining. :D

Nice grab and welcome to AK :-)

Good to see they were matched with someone who could appreciate them. Columbus is one of those markets where less-conventional stuff will just sit there forever, which is why I post some of these items here. And welcome to AudioKarma.

Thanks! I’ve lurked the site for a long time and gotten a lot of good info, just haven’t had occasion to post until now. I could hear the promise of the dual module design in the 201s but mine are ugly ducklings and it would probably take more than they’re worth to make them look and work decently. These have much better bones and they’ll probably get a lot of use once I get the woofers freshened up.

Welcome to AK, and congrats on a very nice set of speakers. I will forever love mine, even tho I haven't played them in a couple years now.
