Favorite "Under the Radar" movie?

"Breaking Away" (1979)

Engaging comedy, with blue-collar townies vs. snobby, rich college students.

Bicycle racers/riders will love this.....

Great cast too, a Quaid and Jackie Earle Haley. Saw it on release with a date. Might be the first film I ever thought about long after I'd seen it. Likely to do with my age and being on the cusp of adulthood. A very good film by any measure.

"Pink Flamingos" (1972)

Director John Waters` crowning achievement....The Best Of The Worst, and vice-versa. Way out on the edge (and maybe a little beyond), it takes shock comedy to absurd (and obscene) levels. Incredibly bizarre, leading from one mind-boggling scene to the next....just when you think "OK, now I`ve seen it all", it bounces back to let you know that you haven`t. There are so many "WTF ????" moments in this film, you lose track of them....

Not for the squeamish....:nono:

You got that right.....:puke:

Back in high school, some theater was showing it as a Midnight Movie. My friend and I thought we would be seeing a porn flick without having to enter the Red Light District.

We were shocked to say the least.

None the less, it has its...merits.

I ended up bringing another friend the next time it played. Told him it was a great porn flick and well....

I saw one early Waters movie where Mink Stole got a "rosary job" and Christ fed the multitudes with cans of Chicken of the Sea and Wonder Bread. I'm laughing like Hell just thinking about it.

Beat the Devil - [1953] B&W

Humphrey Bogart, Jennifer Jones, Gina Lollobrigida,
Robert Morley, Peter Lorie, Bernard Lee, and more ....

On their way to Africa are a group of rogues who hope to get rich there, and a seemingly innocent British couple. They meet and things happen ...
Uranium hunters in Africa - but so much more ...!

And another wacky one -
The Magic Christian [1969]
Peter Sellers and Ringo Star - plus an amazing cast - Roman Polanski, Richard Attenborough, Christopher Lee, Laurence Harvey, Raquel Welch, Yul Brenner ...
many vignettes leading up to a grand stunt ... Monty Pythonish before the Monty - tho Cleese is involved,

And yes, Love love LOVE - The Stunt Man!

"The Stunt Man"

Steve Railsback. Barbara Hershey. Peter O'Toole.

It's an interesting study of perception and the nature of reality and an entertaining movie about making movies.

"Female Trouble", "The Diane Linkletter Story", "Multiple Maniacs", and "Desperate Living" were four other early Waters classics, using pretty much the same cast of miscreant degenerates....even his later "legit" films ("Hairspray", "Cry Baby", "Pecker") all had that inimitable Waters Bawlamer feel about them....

Ha ha,totally forgot about John Waters, yeah he can be a hoot as well.

Always laugh @ Serial Mom (1994),any movie with L-7 Traci Lords & Patty Hearst doing cameos in it is all right by me.

"The Rutles....All You Need Is Cash" (1978)

The loonies from Monty Python, doing a hilarious parody of The Beatles....

""Their first album was made in 20 minutes. Their second album took even longer." :D
