favorite vintage JBL speakers?

any love for the L-166 Horizons?
Certainly. As many have said, somewhere in between the L100 and L112. IMHO, much closer to the L112 than the L100.
There was a voting once at LH about L112 vs. L166 and it ended pretty much head to head.

Having owned both and A/B'ed them I for one still think it’s the other way round, with the L112's a close second. But then maybe I'm biased because I have the Horizons since more than 30 years.

Hey Bart, that L300 x4 was a nice setup. :thmbsp:
Did you keep the 2nd pair?

My favorites in the living room remain the 4343’s though.

Hi Fangio,

Nice to see you posting here at AK! I'm sure the folks here would love to see some of your work. The 4343's remain a really nice speaker. Are you biamping them? I came upon some 4343 cards for the JBL 523x crossovers.

The 2nd pair of L300's in my pictures is now taking a slow boat to Australia. Should be there within 2 weeks or so. I hope to start a thread on their reconstruction when I get a chance, maybe this weekend. It was a blast to have them running in at home while figuring out how to get them packed up.

Will have to get working on a pair of 4341-type cabs and see what I can do with them.

Regards,

Bart

Sure I do. I’m using 2 modified monoblocks with 12AX7 and two KT66’s each for the top end. They are sweeet  and have enough power. Can also drive my smaller JBLs fullrange with ease, although I prefer KT88’s on them, then.

Gave up to domesticate my 5234 for home use though, after some months with it. Too much additional noise and those 523x’s are really not that great for more sophisticated demands (although a previous owner, subwoof had already improved it by adding the desirable bypass caps to it). I kept it as backup and had a friendly expert build me a passive solution instead, some years ago.

Cool. Lots of inspiring examples for them around.. I'll be watching.

Ah, I remember these cabinets. You still have the 4315’s too?
