First time Veneer job....

I think it sounds awesome. But I am only playing it through a pair of Polk audio monitor 45b speakers, and a Polk audio sub. It sounds just as nice as my Pioneer SA8800 amp.

Well, I wasn't happy with the color so I tinted the last few coats of poly with some red. It produced a much warmer look I think. I'm calling it a done deal.

Now, how did you decide to handle the edge trimming????

On the edge trimming, I actually trimmed from both sides with a X-acto knife and fresh blades. I wanted to just trim from the back with multiple passes but was afraid of splintering the top surface. I just put on my reading glasses, and very accurately put a tiny pencil mark at each end of the cut to be made. I then used a steel straight edge and made multiple cuts. Then I flipped it over and used the side of the case to guide the blade to finish the trimming.

I did it this way because on my test box, I cut two of the edges from the back only. One came out perfect, the other splintered some. So I figured going from both sides would work best.

On the holes, I used my dremel and a small barrel sander attachment.
 
How thick is this veneer? I'm probably mis-reading, but did you use an exacto knife to cut the veneer? Do you need a 45° cut for the corners?

The veneer is really thin. I think the pre-installed glue is thicker than the actual veneer. I did the sides first as mentioned by another member, and then installed the top so it covers the side top edges.

I don't think I could have accurately cut a 45 degree angle on the sides of something this thin.

Keizer, what was the substrate made of that you put the veneer on? Was that the original case for that component or something you made?

It was the original wood case. I stripped the original vinyl off with a heat gun. Then prepped the wood for the walnut veneer.
 
Effing beautiful receiver. I found one for free at a garage sale and flipped it on the Bay... but wish I'd kept it after seeing what you did here.

Those MCS receivers are truly wonderful in appearance... and don't sound too bad either!!

You've inspired me to re-veneer my vintage quad receiver!!
 
Was wondering if anyone has a master list of MCS Speakers made in the late 70's. Had a pair of 2 ways that came as a package with the MCS-3222 receiver, not a top of the line 3125 or 3275 but it was my first in 79. Any help appreciated, thanks in advance!!
