Watched the tail end of it yesterday. This is a long lost classic comedy. I believe Sellers was offered Cleese's part, glad Sellers turned it down. This is as close to a Blake Edward's movie you can get without being one.
I DVR it to view tonite.

Yet another classic, along with "Blazing Saddles" and "Airplane" and so many others, that simply couldn't be made today.

Imagine the outrage at teasing K-K-K-ken for his stutter....or any of those lovely off-color jokes.

It's a bona-fide classic, one I never tire of watching. And I dream of changing my name to "Harvey Manfrengensenden"

Love how Wendy flies over that name, classic British.

I used to think Blazing Saddles was funny. Not any more.

Funny how one's values change through the years.

JLC was quite fetching in that movie.

Now that I'm older, Wendy kinda tickles the nethers.

Really?? I still find it extremely funny. Written by a Jewish man (Mel Brooks) and a Black man (Richard Pryor) it is a scathing parody of all the old Westerns, which I no longer enjoy like I once did. Some of those were serious with their racist plots and dialog. This is comedy.

Still, art is subjective to the individual.

It’s like I thought Bill Cosby was funny when I was a kid. Not so much anymore. And it has nothing to do with his legal troubles. It just didn’t age well with me.

I just gotta comment on the "couldn't be made today" line I see so often on forums regarding "Blazing Saddles" and other "pushing the boundaries" humor---

Have you ever seen an episode of "Family Guy"?

Yes, and when that show is good, it's really good. Often, it's not. There were a couple of years where it simply wasn't that funny, shock value, nothing more. Only my opinion.

However, I don't think that strange Seth McFarlane would be willing to complete the following line from Blazing Saddles -

"And isn't it a LOVELY day today, ma'am??"

"Up yours............insert unmentionable word here."

I think it is funny that no one has tried to “cancel” Blazing Saddles.”

It’s also like tv drunks like Dean Martin or Otis Campbell that I don’t think would be funny today.

I think it humorous that "cancel culture" has become the phenomenon it has, considering how whimsical and offensive I personally find it to the revered idea of freedom of speech.

These people get off on their temporary reward of a self-inflicted injection of pseudo-virtue.

Sniffing their own farts, I say.

But yeah, alcoholism isn't funny at all. Most of us have known someone that has those struggles.
Still, Foster Brooks, not a real drunk at all, was quite funny.

"Funny" is not necessarily the point when discussing whether or not something that pokes fun at conservatively "off limits" subjects could be "made today".

My point is; "Family Guy" and "American Dad" FTM clearly target the same reactions that "Blazing Saddles" did and that genre of humor is, in fact alive and well.

...and on mainstream broadcast television no less.

I tried watching both shows and thought they were both mostly tasteless. I was amazed that a former family channel like TBS was showing them. Never have liked crude or distasteful humor. I'm not a prude by any means, but I don't like my intelligence insulted.

I agree a lot of the material is not my cup of tea and IMO "too much", but I find both shows MUCH more funny than "The Office".

"Uncomfortable" for the sake of being uncomfortable is not funny to me. AT ALL.

...and there's another fairly recent popular show chock full of ethnic related "humor".
