...wow...just wow. I dont know how much you paid but that is one hell of a score regardless of price. simply beautiful
 
The problem with those Hampshire cabinets is that now all of your other furniture is going to look so middle-class in comparison. It's going to get expensive redecorating what with all the leather upholstered wing back chairs, the barrister bookcases, the wainscoting . . . not to mention the Turner hanging over the mantle. I certainly hope you're a pipe smoker.

It really did clean up nicely. Excellent work!

I think so too. That is the only real eye sore on the whole thing. I may have a guy lined up already. Since it is only on the fold out part I will be able to remove it instead of bringing the whole cabinet to them.

Just thought I would update everyone. I have been bringing up these beauties on a variac for 2 days and Friday night I had Kyle come over and take a listen. As for functionality, perfect. The tuner couldn't have been any more dead on and pulled in all sorts of stations. It does take some time to warm up after shut off before it begins to pull in the stations though. The amp works well with no hum or interference. I'm very impressed and look forward to a full restoration someday. In the mean time I will order a new tuning eye tube and get a bulb for the right side of the display. Other than that it will sit unused and waiting so as not to do any damage to an otherwise irreplaceable treasure. I want to thank everyone for all the help and information.
 
Yeah, I was there to hear the Custom Sixty come to life. Transformers run cool, can caps were barely warm to the touch. No red plating tubes, everything looked good for a 60 year old amp/power supply. The seller had been running the Fisher recently, so we figured that one more run up to get a base line before restoration wouldn't hurt.

I pulled the bottom covers off the amp and power supply. There are no electrolytic caps under the hood of the PS, only 3 can caps. The amp has what appears to be 6 Sprague bumble bee caps. Shouldn't be too difficult to restore the amp and power supply. Lots of open space to work with in these units. Considering that it will be easy to work on the amp, I'm sure it will be worth the time to check all the resistors as well.
 
I did test it with the G-610. What I found was that it will be a very true sounding speaker. Since I didn't really run anything to its full potential, this was a poor test for this speaker's value. I do look forward to really experience this some day though.
 
At garage sale in San Anselmo California back a couple life-times ago, I paid a couple dollars for an orphaned TUNER, from a Custom-60.

At the time, only the 'name recognition' guided me. It wasn't until I got it home, that I discovered that even with all those tubes, it still needed another amp!

And then.... it was mono....and then there were the propriatary plugs and jacks.... and then there was the raw chassis with no case.

What was I thinking?

I moved it along at the Sausagelito flea market, the following summer.

What was I thinking? ----- name recognition, I guess. :)

Sadly I haven't done anything else to it since I got it. I've been looking for the proper hardware from other period pieces. As for the electronics, I'm waiting to find the right person for the task. I don't really want to ship any of it anywhere.

I recently purchased custom sixty because we LOVE the cabinet. I found this thread trying to get some background info on the units. What year, what is its value, etc. I tried searching the d&s forum but didn't gEt far. I am not a bulletin board aficionado and don't know if I am breaking rules oe hi-jacking. Just read the entire thread and now I am fascinated!!,

Congratulations! You would be better off starting your own thread, with pictures, of course! That way, we can get more data on a rare console. Make sure you get pics of the speaker, chassis labels, etc.

Value questions go in the Dollars and Sense forum. It will be very difficult to place a value on the Custom Sixty though.
