Fisher Price Pocket Rockers?

Somehow I missed hearing about this format back in the 80's.
Basically a miniaturized 8-Track format for kids.
Two songs per tape with lo-fi sound.

That was sort of a "modern" replacement to the Philco Hip-Pocket records of the 60's, eh?

I think I may still have a few of those tapes stashed away somewhere.

Look very similar to the Playtapes introduced in 1967, also two track about that size.

The Pocket Rockers are about 1/5th the size of a Playtape. About the size of a matchbook, if anyone remembers those. The player is about the size of a Kodak Instamatic, if anyone remembers those.

The tapes I have are covers of hits, but I think they marketed the real thing too. There's a switch for song 1 or 2.

My 27 year old daughter, who continuously teases me about my recorder collection, came across mine a few years ago. Whenever she does housework she puts La Bamba on and it just keeps repeating and repeating and repeating...

I remember those!

I used to see commercials for them all the time when I was a kid. Some of the cartridges wouldn't even play the whole song due to space. My parents asked me if I wanted Santa to bring me some for Christmas.

I politely declined but I did ask for a walkman instead
