FM radio crosstalk on Rotel Rx-855

I just bought a Rotel Rx-855, and when I have the selector set to phono, without the record playing at about half volume I hear the faint crosstalk of the FM tuner signal. Is this normal?

No not normal. but it happens

Could be a muting circuit. However try moving the turn table away from the amp (is the TT properly ground to the chassis ground) also clean up dangling wires behind the setup. just for starters and let us know.

I fixed it. My cables were a bit of mess for one. Also the home made jumpers for the amp and preamp, whoever used RCA connectors and looks like 14 gage speaker wire, I unplugged and reconnected them and crosstalk gone. Thanks again for the help. Basic stuff I but I am more used to troubleshooting computers, I am a technician, then audio equipment.

For possible future reference, it looks like the function selector switch sends a voltage through D501 on the PCB with the switches, through R209 (33K) on the tuner PCB, to pin 1 of IC104 (TA7324 "muting IC" on tuner PCB), which mutes the FM tuner output when FM is deselected.

I keep that in mind. I don't if this receiver functions like that. It has a FM mute button on the front face.

Actually after rereading the manual you are correct. FM mute button is a noise filter.
