Bob made some great equipment, I have had several Carver amps, one I had rebulit by Roland- I can't say anything bad about them.
Even though my taste's have moved to other equipment, I have the utmost respect for Bob, and I think it's really exciting to see this great American audio inovator/engineer, and brilliant marketer back on the audio scene.
Regardless of what you think of his products, his amplifier designs (particuliarly their offspring designs) have revolutionized subwooofer amps, car audio, sound reinforcement etc.
Akin to PW Klipsch-Julian Hirsch, Sidney Harman, they all had a profound effect on how I look at, and enjoy audio.

Dropped off some amps with Bob Carver this afternoon
I finally made the trip out to Bob and Rita's Audio repair this afternoon, with Sir.Byrd's Phase Linear 700 amp and a Sansui tube receiver.
Bob Carver was hanging out when I stopped by, greeted me right away and even helped me bring my gear inside - he carried in the Phase Linear 700 amp - it's very heavy on the one side and we ribbed him about the design as he wrestled it onto a rack. He agreed that the Sansui tube receiver that I brought in was a nice one, and will check if restoration is doable. Right away he spotted a bad tube.
It was fun chatting with Bob, Rita and Lisa. They are still in getting organized mode, and Bob was great to take the time and chat with me, thanked me for making the trip to deliver the gear, etc. They have stuff coming in, but they don't seem to be overwhelmed with incoming work yet so I have high hopes for a reasonable timeframe on the turnaround. :thmbsp:
I talked about my Amazing Silvers and Andromeda speakers - he was very interested to hear about them and asked about which set of ribbons I had on the Amazings.
This is probably the first of many trips to Snohomish - it's about a half hour drive for me. Here's a picture I took of Bob with a Sansui tube receiver that I brought in:
Very good news! Carver's shop has been mapped and is probably going to be a regular stop for restoration work.
It will be interesting to learn what restoration parts and labor involves to a typical job as people get the gear worked on.

Your classic Phase Linear amp has returned to it's origin!
Sorry I couldn't get a picture of Bob carrying it in from the truck. I'll try to get a picture of him with it when I pickup (or maybe you can join me for the next trip up there).

Hi Bob, I didn't look closely at what they had in the racks. What I saw was mainly classic Carver amps like the M-500s. I did notice a box of LPs on the floor which I thought was pretty damn cool.
It's nice having this place right in our neck of the woods, isn't it?
I certainly didn't see any wharfedales or other speakers - Is Rita doing work on speakers? :scratch2:

SLF I do believe Bob Is working on the speakers and tubes.
from what I understand Rita is solid state only and the Sunfire tubes
I seen her working on a Sunfire Classic Vacuum Pre Amp
But I could be wrong

That sounds right. I had the impression that Bob was going to look at my Sansui tube receiver :tresbon: He said that he generally comes over in the late afternoon, after work on his day job.
