I found a Micro Seiki DD-40 tt in excellent condition for $200. Is it worth it? It comes with orig ma-505 tonearm and all original.

Absolutely.

The arm alone has been bringing in $350-$550.

This is for the stand-alone arm with a different base than the one on this table, but beside the base, the arm is the same. That means, the same arm just with a different mounting base.

Thanks guys. I just emailed the seller and told him I could pick it up Thursday if still available. Cross your fingers. If I end up getting this I will probably sell my second Technics Sl-1200 Mk II.

Thanks again.
Brian

Just thought I add this here as well. I found another Micro Seiki Mb-12 for $50 in good condition. I asked the seller to send me some pics. Is the Mb-12 any good?

Thanks.
Brian

I figured that. I'll probably let it slide if I can score the DD-40. I can't sleep and I'm dying to call this guy with the dd-40 in the morning.

Yeah- you posted about it, and hundreds of lurkers are probably scouring craigslists everywhere, salivating.

You can't get there before Thursday? I'd doubt it'd last that long. Heck, I'd be worried it'd be gone by lunchtime tomorrow.

I'd be there cash in hand as soon as possible.

Good luck my friend!

The arm on that DD 40...
The sud arm bases were optional for this table? I'd look out for those if you own one..

I just found it myself doing a google search but i won't post it
Hope OP gets it.

I have a review of the DD40, from a series of brief tests of a range of "Super Turntables". These were tested in the late 70's - not sure of the exact date, but it was either 1977 or 78.

ADC Accutrac 4000 Rumble -38dB unweighted, wow&flutter 0.065% WRMS, platter resonance poor
Denon DP-1700 -39.5dB, 0.05%, platter resonance fair
Hitachi HT-840 -43.5dB, 0.046%, platter resonance poor
JVC QL-7 -41.5dB 0.045%, platter resonance fair
Linn Sondek LP12 -58dB, 0.03% platter resonance excellent
Luxman PD-131 -45.5dB, 0.042%, platter resonance very good
Marantz 6300 -43dB, 0.06%, platter resonance good
Micro Seiki DD-40 -42dB, 0.055%, platter resonance excellent
Mitsubishi DPEC-1 -40dB, 0.045%, platter resonance fair
Pioneer PL-550 -42dB, 0.048%, platter resonance poor
Technics SP-10 -46.5dB, 0.04%, platter resonance very good

The Micro Seiki DD-40 was about the level of a Rega Planar 3 for rumble, and slightly better for wow and flutter. The tonearm resonance for the DD-40 with a Denon DL-103 was almost perfect - about 9Hz, and only a 4dB peak, which is excellent.

By the same magazine, the 1981 test of the Technics SL-1200MkII gave the following figures:
rumble -36dB, wow and flutter 0.04% weighted peak (no mention of platter resonance, but it probably isn't as good as the Technics SP-10). Note that the wow and flutter test for the SL-1200 was tested to the world standard that came in for the 1980's (peak weighted), and so can't be compared to the earlier figures, but it was excellent, and probably better than many in that test. It wasn't as good as any of the others for rumble, although as many of the others were higher priced, that's not surprising. It was about the same as the Rega Planar 2 for rumble, and was very slightly cheaper.

I finally contacted the seller and he says to check back next week. It appears someone may have beet me to it. Oh well. Thanks for everyone's support. i have way too many turntables as is so maybe this is a blessing.

It has been listed for a while, but the price recently dropped from $300 to $200. I was tempted, but just didn't need it. Good luck.

I contacted the seller on Monday morning and asked him nicely it he would be willing to ship at my expense and he agreed. I have wanted a DD-40 for some time and figured it never hurts to ask......

I think the DD-40 is one of the most beautiful turntables I have seen. My apologizes for stealing it from the DC locals.

I sure hope it survives it's travels to the midwest.

I'm 2 hours north on I-95 so not quite local. I'm headed down to Baltimore today so it's is about an hour south. No biggie. I already have 2 Technics Sl-1200mk II's and a Music Hall MMf-7 (original). Good luck and keep us posted on the Micro Seiki. Make sure he double boxes it and takes everything off. Here is a goo tutorial here.
