Fuse Protecting multiple speakers

it is no use reversing phase on left and right at same time or it will just be the same ... just reversing one is all thats needed .

It depends on what is out of polarity.

Some gear inverts polarity, some doesn't. If one amp.inverts polarity relative to another amp then you may need to reverse the connections to both speakers of one amp to bring the systems both to the same polarity.

it was said reverse both on the kenwood only .
ok i hear what you are saying ..i have run multiple amp systems and never run into problems with phasing so long as all are wired the same .

Mike, I don't understand. If you hook the Tape Out on the Adcom and hook the other end to the Aux on the Kenwood, the volume control on the Kenwood should vary the volume going to the speaker's connected to the Kenwood. Naturally you must select the Aux as the source for the Kenwood.

Now to test for phase we want to make sure the speaker's connected to the Kenwood are in phase with the speaker's connected to the PL. So turn the Kenwood OFF. Next reverse the Right speaker - take the lead going to the Red terminal and put in on the Right Black terminal. Put the lead that was on the black terminal and connect it to the Right Red terminal.

Now do this exact same reversal on the Left Speaker lead.

Turn the Kenwood on and listen to it's speakers as well as the speaker's connected to the PL. You need all 4 pairs running to determine which way sounds the loudest.

Jerry

Well after I hooked it back up my way it does not sound as loud as it did last night. I will try again your way. Maybe I did fart something up. My ears may be toast. I will keep you posted (as well as the peanut gallery) .

I agree with you. The end game here is to get sound upstairs and downstairs with the 4 sets of speakers I have. Two up and two down. I am fine upstairs with the 40wpc kenwood and the klipch. No worries with that setup as I have been running for months. Now introduce phase linear, pre amp and the basement. I am very careful and technical. I really just came on this site to get knowledge. I also know that unless you try something new and get opposition by doing so, creates the challenge. I wake up every day and think to myself what am I supposed to do now? I guess it is what makes life interesting to me as I have pretty much done everything and more than most normal 47 year olds. It could also be a collossal mid life crisis. Who knows.
To most, jumping off of a 300 foot cliff onto jagged rocks below would be a new experience, but we have the benefit of knowledge handed down by countless dead, mangled visionaries to save us the pain of such self discovery. A modern multi-zone HT receiver would be a more pragmatic solution than speaker protection for too many speakers. Add an IR repeater wire to the pair of speaker wires you'll run and that pesky individual room volume situation is solved. A few extra cheap receivers from Craigslist would probably be more economical - you'd be surprised the sound quality to be had from a $100 Denon AVR-3805.

Don't forget those of us in the "popcorn gallery." We are many in number and growing. :D

If there are multiple speakers wired in series, it seems very possible that some may be out of phase with others in the string. If the system is still wired this way, you should check each speaker in the string. Touch a 1.5V battery to the speaker input terminals (disconnected from everything else). If you put the + battery terminal to the + or red input on the speaker, every time, and look at whether the woofer moves out or in when voltage is applied, this lets you confirm they are all wired the same way or not. If the woofer moves the opposite way on any of them, reverse the leads to that speaker pair in the string.

Everything works great. The show is over (hint for peanut gallery to admit they were at the wrong gladiator arena to watch a slave get killed) . I know it was amusing but I did not blow anything or fail. The tape out 1 & 2 on the adcom does not work ( damn craigslist liers) so I just split the norm out on the Adcom to acheive what I needed. I thought it did after Jerry told me to switch things up but when I switched things back it did not. Weird. As far as splitting my system up into different rooms/levels, I am in R&D mode right now to see what to split up. I know in a perfect scenerio that i would have all the same speakers and dope equipment. I choose to use vintage and i have to work with the limitations. It is really hard to find 2 sets of vintage speakers that are the same manufacturer and actually work without ripping apart the crossovers and replacing caps. I just think vintage eq. is better made and easier to fix when you have an issue. I also like the way it looks and sounds. I also collect Mid Century stuff so it blends in. Oh BTW thank you for the battery trick. I learned that at the science fair in 5th grade.

I do have a question for those inclined to be positive. I have a pair of fischer x-10's from 1964. One was rebuilt at some point and did not work so i did my tests and threw a set of caps in it. 1,4 and 50 respectively. They were Dayton and Jentzen caps. How can I get to sound better like the sansui or wharfedales? It does not sound as full and complete. Build or order a new crossover? Junk them? Are the speakers any good? They compare to my Coral BX 1000's maybe but are 6 times as big and weigh 80lbs. I saw a post on a rebuild of them but is it really worth it? The old fried egg tweeters may be bad but they both work now. Are the speakers worth it(second time)? They are beautiful looking. Thanks again for all your help and antihelp.

I think all of you are jealous because I get to dink around with some cool stuff and I am not as worried as you are if I fudge up. I have no shame. Also I think it was my ears. It sounded great today. I had the thing so loud and it sounded so good I could not resist the future hearing aid problem.

Mike, I can't understand how Tape Out doesn't work. The entire idea behind having a tape out is so you can record the signal selected by the source selector on the Adcom.

In your case it allows you to connect all sources to the Adcom and automatically route the signal to your Kenwood. Now for this to work the Adcom must be turned ON and the you must select the source that you want. The music on that source will be routed to both the Kenwood and the PL.

I thought I tried that. Unless I am a complete idiot and did not switch the listening to cd and record to tape when I was in the zone could happen. hmmmm. The adcom GTP 500 allows you to record from other sources than the one you have selected. IE I hooked my signal up to the CD in. I could however at the same time be playing a record and while listening to the music on the cd input, I can record what is playing on the record at the same time. Let me read documentation again. I included the page. I am willing to try again. Lots of wires back there. :). Is there anything wrong with splitting it at the main norm out?
