G-9700 on ebay...910.00!?!

I'm no expert, but you can clearly tell that the G-9700 clearly does not have th Dual Power Supply that distinguished all the truly great receivers. There are only 2 Filter Capactors instead of 4. That's clearly a step down and certainly explains some of the weight loss. On a more trivial note, the G-9000 has a handly little metal strip running along the bottom on each side to tuck in the wires protruding from the side-mounted connectors. I notice that the G-9700 dispenses with that as well.

However, it will be of GREAT interest to see if EW has a preference, although I suspect what it will be.

You are absolutely right on all counts. There are only 2 caps in G9700 of 12k each... certainly not a currrent monster.. whereas the G9000(G901) has that monster Torodial with Sansui all over it and that side rail of some value.
I have more cap (60k) in my Kenwood Kr-9050 @ 160watts then the G9700 has @200wpc!!!!

I rescued this one from a local gas-station last year....paid all of 50 bucks for it!!

I'll take a deal like that..............

Only thing is, amp section worked fine but the tuner would'nt work! Still, I can't imagine the thing being anywhere NEAR worth 900 bucks even if the tuner worked.

The 9700 tuner is pretty decent. Fix it.

I give the floor to Echowars....

As one who is most intimate with the TOTL Sansui's and Kenwoods.. indeed fix it! I seem to recall this purchase had something to do with your relative or someone bringing the unit to your attentions... is this the eeven or close to it?

If it is... you still have'nt fixed it? shame on you!!!!
If it is not....shame on me for scolding you! :tears:

No doubt, the G-9000 is truly a great receiver. But the x700 models are certainly good as well. If you happen to be a fan of the G series, and want to add an x700 model to the collection, the smart thing to do would be to avoid paying an exorbitant amount for a G-9700 (the theme of this thread), and buy a G-7700, which will still give you plenty of power, but at a very reasonable price.

'The Sansui Master has spoken!' :smoke:

No, the 9700 isn't the brick shithouse that the 8000 and 9000 are, but it's a pretty damn decent receiver in its own right...and like I said, the tuner is nicely done.

$900+ though? I don't think so. At least not yet.

I was sitting back and waiting for a reply from EW, who knows the insides much better then most of us.

All I can say about the $900 + price so far, " There is a brain surgeon and I am glad I have no Brain problems YET!

I recently put one of my G 9000DB units up for auction that was completely restored by EW. Best offer I got, from a member here, was $500 and it received ZERO bids at auction.
Sure it had a couple of minor bumps and bruises but it looks great and sounds fantastic yet they pay $900 + for a substantially lesser receiver that will almost certainly need a restore in the very near future.
GO FIGURE.
