How can you tell if your speaker has been reconed using a genuine JBL recone kit versus an aftermarket kit? Just wondering if there is a way to tell.

Hmmm...a difficult question I guess. I'll give it a bump in case someone knows. Thanks.

What model are you talking about?

Most likely if it was done with aftermarket parts it just looks wrong, I guess it comes from seeing them for so many years.

Thanks for the reply. It's a 2214H woofer from my 4425 studio monitors. I know they still sale the JBL kit for it, I think. I'm just not sure how to distinguish one from the other.

Well, it would normally have some stickers or stampings like this:

and usually a signature with date and driver number like this:

BMWCCA beat me to it. That's what I would be looking for.

Though, to be fair, the aftermarket kits are MUCH better now. It's to the point where it's limited only by the skill level of the person assembling the available parts... there are parts that EXACTLY match the originals, available in the aftermarket, now. I know, as I've BUILT a number of them...

Regards,
Gordon.

Hey Gordon, would you have specific info as to sources on the "exact" replacements......

Most reconing shops can get them. Unfortunately, the parts supplier we use sells ONLY wholesale, to businesses... they won't sell retail to the general public.

Gordon.

Thanks a lot for the replies, guys. Now to get the woofer reconed
