Getting into video gaming

We were gamers going up , and I still remember play "pong" on the magnavox council. That's close to 60 years ago! I have a couple early video game system in my garage I should bring in a play but the last time I did, it didn't really float my boat. I've been playing my second 2nd game of Fallout 4 for a couple of months now, and have gone different route than the first time through and just as fun as the original experience. Just can't get enough of blasting super mutants and raiders. Fallout 3 was great fun too, but not as much fun the second time thru for me. I bought a xbox one x a couple of years ago for my wife and I to enjoy but she flew the coup. I have a ps3 also and was enjoying the best golf game ever Tiger woods 14 when my hard drive gave out, i've stalled ordering a new one but not for long. Too many irons in the fire right now. I'll to download fallout one and two and will eventually play them too . Got to love video games. The first computer video game I played was on the college computer station at hvcc. I think we only had 7 terminals for the entire college back in 1976. If it had been more engaging I may have change curriculums and taken more than one course in computer programming. Such is life. john
Fallout 4 was great and wow it's been 10 years since the original release. I enjoyed the multiplayer Fallout 76 release a lot, they expected a lot of anti-social griefing and the opposite occurred, it was like us vs the NPC rest of the world, very little player-vs-player play. And Fallout New Vegas is one of my all time favourites with a 10/10 sublime soundtrack.

Bethesda's Skyrim also was played a lot. I did all sorts of styles, mage was a lot of fun.

I’ve got an xbox one and modern games just leave me kind of flat.

Seems to take forever to load up and I want game play, not multiple mini movies. No interest in “online play”. Tried that with Forza a couple times and it just seemed like a bunch of a-holes that just want to crash into you. Seen a couple friends get into the online play and they just started disappearing from their families lives. Sucked them right into a virtual world and they started neglecting the real one. Just doesn’t seem like a good trade to me.

Last game I played all the way through was the last Tomb Raider, but I also started that franchise on a 486…lol!

I do enjoy the Forza series with a racing chair/wheel/pedals/shifter. But only “offline”. Thats about it for the xbox these days. It ends up just being a media player most of the time.

I’m actually going backwards with any game play.

Started replaying The Adventures of Link: Zelda II (gold cart):

on my original NES:

and a little orginal “Mario Bros“ from time to time. Mmmmm….’shrooms!

Mostly “Earthworm Jim” on my original 16 bit Sega Genesis:

Still have a pile of games for both. They start up immediately and its all game play, no frills. Toss in the game genie and do whatever I want in the NES/Sega games.

Sure, its all “2D” stuff, but its just enjoyable as anything new. In some ways: more. No muss, no fuss and no 10 different buttons and joysticks to get confused. Guess I just don’t have enough RAM…,;)

Before that I was part of the crowd who used to ditch school and pump quarters into the machines at the local arcades. Great fun, but I paid a high price (education wise) for it. Of course, I also didn't play story games before and I enjoyed them. But after games made like a movie appeared, I can't tear myself away from them. Of course, sometimes nostalgia comes to me and I play fast games. I can play Teken, Mario, I recently got acquainted with gambling games on https://casinosfest.com/online-casino/king-billy/ where they offer good bonuses. I will also play them in the future. In general, I understand your point of view, especially if you like simplicity and exciting gameplay without unnecessary "movies". Like old arcade games like Duck Hunt - here everything is aimed exclusively at the game, without long introductions and unnecessary loading. I got “back on the horse“ in time, but it wasn’t easy.

Heck, I’m even playing “electronic quarterback” these days:

LED goodness! Simpler times….

Not for everyone, but “retro games” are fun too. More so when played on the original consoles, which I’ve kept all these years.

Modern gaming just seems to suck people in and thats not for me, not anymore.

Now, where can I get a nice, big CRT television so I can play “duck hunt”?

;)
So you want to say that a game like The Last of Us doesn't appeal to you? On the contrary, I like games like that when they're made like a movie with a deep plot and characters.

I was an above average player with COD World at War. Give me a PPSH and a bandolier and it was mayhem. Loved it. Oldest boys game was Unreal. He was amazing it at it. Was accused of being a cheater he was so good, got called one too playing COD. Middle son was an excellent all around player that was way above average in any games he played. Youngest was a world class WoW player though never ranked. He fought a ranked player to a draw. That match had an audience that was pulling for my son as the underdog. Very talented at creating macros and typed 100 wpm with no mistakes. A real keyboard warrior. Once in the right job he created macros that made his and others job much easier. Now he's 2nd in charge of collections and investigator for units that are doing sketchy stuff. People aren't happy when they hear he's looking into what their doing. You can learn important stuff playing video games.

That’s a solid gaming journey, and it’s interesting how many people point to the early 2010s as their peak gaming time. A lot of that comes down to the mix of simpler games, local multiplayer, and just more time to play. I’m in a similar situation where I don’t game as much anymore, but I still go back to games like Minecraft or Trackmania now and then because they’re easy to pick up without needing a big time commitment. I haven’t had kids or grandchildren introducing me to gaming, but I’ve seen it happen a lot where younger family members pull older players back into games, especially with modern multiplayer and online features.

I know what you mean about some games you need to keep sharp at to play well. Didn't play Call of Duty WaW for over a year. Jump back in and the pointer was moving so fast it was hard to believe I was playing that fast just a little over a year before. The mouse speed was cranked.

Another big thing affecting gaming is the game companies greed. Sony's one of the worst. They will try to milk as much as they can. My kids are moving away from gaming because of the much increased cost.
