When we moved to Las Cruces from the Chi. area, things got real. Our doberman would go out to do duty and one day she wouldn't
I went out to see if there was a problem and found that there was a giant beetle around the size of my fist in the area she would do her duty.
Approaching the thing it raised it's head getting ready to defend itself. I decided to correct the situation without harming the varmint.
I got a small shovel and sent it over the stone wall on the rear of our property. Problem solved.
I have not seen one that big since. I have seen a super large moth that was around the size of my hand but it quickly took off.
Preying Mantis are another visitor. As are small lizards of various sizes and colors. We even had a tortoise around the size of a basketball arrive one morning.
We watered and fed it for a few weeks and then it was gone.

I was 5 when we moved here 55 years ago. Simple math! This is home to me. I've seen enormous changes to the valley. It's grown to be much larger than I care for but it's still home.

Well, we're sitting here in gloomy, cloudy, cold rainy weather, wishing we were back down there somewhere in Arizona. We had dinner in Scottsdale just 16 days ago, the night before my better half flew out of Sky Harbor to come back here (I drove, and enjoyed every minute of it). I have visited Arizona a few times in the past, but as this terrible Michigan weather wears away at both of us, we're starting to be pulled more and more towards a warmer climate with a lot more sunshine than we see here. (I seriously think I have SAD.) Loved Sedona, Flagstaff was cool (and literally, too
), loved the history of Tucson, and everything down there is so much cleaner than dumpy Detroit! We both have to wait for our respective young 'uns to graduate from college before we do anything. But I've been saying I want to move away for over 30 years, so who knows? I could end up down that way in the future, if Colorado doesn't call me a bit louder.

Thanks for the welcome! 115? that's typical for parts of the summer. It's hit 122 or 123 before. I call it the stinking desert but it's home!"Desert! We don't need no stinking desert!"
Welcome, Jim. My brother lives outside of Phoenix. We visited him once in June and it was 115 degrees. I'll stay hear in New Hampshah.
Some like experiencing the four seasons up here. I'd just prefer my four seasons to all be sunny and warm(er).
I figure I've already had a lifetime here, so hey, if I want a change, I'll eventually do it!
