I saw one of these locally for $150.00 in very good shape. Is this a keeper?
I notice it has provision for MM/MC carts which is cool.
Should I drop the hammer?
Thanx,
Bud

It's beautiful unit with good power (100 per channel). It's not a score but I think it's worth it, especially if it's the silver face version.

Thanx!
It's the light golden-colored color face one.
I might go back and get it.

If the more powerful VXI version that I have is anything to go by its a very nice integrated amp. Get the deoxit ready, though, there's a million tiny buttons to clean and they like to get dirty.

I always thought the VXi was a small step down in sound quality, for a decent step up in power. But they are killer amps, and very well built. Just be prepared to keep those switches Clean!

I don't think the VXi series was actually more powerful. They were rated differently. Higher wattage, the infamous 4/8 Ohm switch, but about the same current and weight compared to the earlier models IIRC from the sales floor. I thought they were a slight step down.

I honestly don't know the difference but if the non-VXI is better, then yeah, go for it, because its a nice integrated.

True. Weren't they rated at like 150 wpc compared to the 100 in the non Vxi? Seemed kinda like h/k was selling out to show impressive numbers, rather than following their own (and Matti Otala's) path, as they had for a decade before.

That's exactly what was happening at that point. HK adopted a 'if you can't beat them, join them" attitude. The VXi was just a slightly modified version of the previous series, made to impress the people in the cheap seats. After that is when things really went downhill and each new series was even less impressive.
