"Hate"

Thank you for hat reply. I haven't the slightest idea how mild hate in English is... ;)

...please send me a sample of your hate, loopstick... :D
Here's a perfect example (that you never hear any more):

"Love the sinner, hate the sin".

So when I say I "hate" Pedro The Lion, I really mean I love Pedro (God bless him), but hate the sap:

.

It is, Sir. But the only thing I have to offer to our contemporary society is lovingkindness - more than ever. This is my way.

Yes, I agree completely.....

But as Stevie Wonder sang at Whitney Houston’s funeral....Love is in need of love today, please send in some love right away !!

I hate hate...
What I loathe is the normalization of loathesome traits.
I remember back in 1997 in Germany when the increase of immigrants onto the roads and highways changed the way people drive. I can believe that it’s much worse now...
The only constant is change. I left a few months before the wall came down after another three years in military residence. It has changed in many ways and no longer frozen in cold war era circumstances. I remember folks complaining about Turkish gastarbiters in the 1970s, but someone has to do the work nobody wants while the replacement male generation comes of age to fill in for the one largely decimated in a futile promotion of an unacceptable international order.
Germany is rehabilitated and a full member of the world, no longer the postwar cold war standoff European outpost of NATO, and taking on the responsibilities of an independent mature society.

I wish I could say that about the country I live in......

An independent mature society.....somewhere over the rainbow !!!

from Merriam Webster:
hate

verb
hated; hating
Definition of hate (Entry 2 of 2)

transitive verb

1: to feel extreme enmity toward : to regard with active hostility hates his country's enemies
2: to have a strong aversion to : find very distasteful hated to have to meet strangers

Anything else is added by our modern society. Hate is simply an old word used by multiple societies as a word to express an extreme dislike. Any word is simply a word and how you respond to it says more about you than the person using the words. I hate people that ride in the left lane of a 4 lane highway. That doesn't mean I wish them ill will or any harm to their person. On the contrary in fact. Mostly I just wish they would obey the traffic rules and move over so I can proceed to exceed the speed limit. And sometimes I catch myself using a word or phrase, out loud or in thought, and laugh at myself for using it.

I think people quite often take words in a context that suits themselves at that particular time.....which may not be the way the speaker intended it at all. I love a good cheeseburger but I don't think we would be happily married. And the wife would be a little upset to be replaced by a cheeseburger so there is that.

I do take effort to refrain from telling anyone that they "need" to do something or that they "should" do. I will recommend but that's as far as I go. The decision on their need is theirs to make...not mine. You would likely hate to have me as a neighbor...but I don't think there would be any hatred directed towards me or my family. If fact we may even become friends once we learn to coexist with each other.

I can honestly say that at this time there is only one person on this planet I hate and that word seems inadequate for the depths of my loathing for him and the space he occupies. BUT....I'm working on that and it too will pass in time.

and I do apologize for preaching to the choir. Some of the best people I've never met gather here.

I rarely use the word. Or at least I thought I rarely used it...

Let's see who is the biggest hater! Take your screen-name and do an AK site search with the word "hate". I got a measly 42 occurrences in 17 years on AK- Clearly, I need to step up my game and start hating more.

The instigator of this thread got, wait for it, 76 occurrences, so not a bad effort and with a special call-out for a triple use of the word in one sentence! :)

And this guy hates things nearly four times more than me with an awesome score of 164.... ;)

4-2-7 has got a 142 occurrences...

So, post your hate score and find a winner!

PS Posting in this thread will boost your overall hate score.
