I wanted to, but had other plans. Any idea if they're going to rerun the premier episode? I looked for it in the listings and found nothing.

Ya ... lots of interesting info I hadn't been exposed to before.
(Pretty much the only thing the residents weren't exposed to I gather.)

I've got a copy of Soviet Life here hailing the conquering heros who came up with the reactor plans. Published February 1986, just a couple months before it all went fubar ... interesting read!
The odds of a meltdown are one in 10,000 years. The plants have safe and reliable controls that are protected from any breakdown with triple redundancy backups.

The environment is also securely protected. Hermetically sealed buildings, closed cycles for technological processes with radioactive agents and systems for purification and harmless disposal preclude any discharge into the external environment.

** BBC America is also running an interesting special on the subject with a lot of investigation into how the local life is adapting to the "new normal".

Watched 1st ep on HBO Now (streaming); think I'd rate it 'OK' for now, will watch the next ep at least.

Watched it. Waiting to see how it progresses to render judgement. It was about what I expected--a certain amount of actual fact, embellished with a bunch of drama--but, hey, it is a made for TV mini-series.

It's incredibly intense and downright frightening at times. Very well written and acted. It's one of the few series that I think is too short--on the other hand, not sure how much more tension I could endure.

Caught up w/the rest of it; last episode comes out tonight. Good stuff but kinda glad it ends after 5 eps. Not an easy watch.

They had to film this series in 3 minute intervals because of the high amounts of radiation still being detected.

"Just kidding"

Depends where you are, but yeah some of it is pretty toasty and will be for a very long time. I just hope that with the new containment building they actually proceed with making it safe so by the time the new one is at the end of life, there won't be a scramble to do something like there was this time around. I half expect it'll become another "kick the can" deal where nothing happens until it absolutely cannot be ignored again.

"The character Ulana Khomyuk was created to represent them all and to honor their dedication and service to truth and humanity"

So the whole show is questionable.

No, the whole show is not a documentary, the whole show is a drama. And they did a fantastic job with it IMHO.
