Help ID a strange crossover box?

These came out of a pair of ancient DIY speakers, mated to an Altec 803B and 802D/811 horn.

Any idea what they are? I don't see an easy way inside.

I'll wager there are two 28uF caps in that box, and possibly a pad of fixed resistors.

Given the pair of 3.7 chokes, i'm assuming they were cloning the N500 network which is a square topology, both shunt and series components are of the same value.

Do you have a capacitor tester?

Thanks! Have you seen these before? Do you think they are an Altec product or some kind of DIY product from Heathkit or something? I've been looking through old catalogs and coming up empty.

My multimeter can test capacitance - I'll give it a shot.

I'm guessing based purely on the particular Altec components and the value of that pair of chokes. An N500 uses a pair of 3.6 mH.

Nothing Altec there that i recognize.

The square plastic bobbin chokes and philips head screws on the barrier strips are pushing a decade or so later than the 802D/803B, and give me a kind of catalog rub. Like the entire crossover was offered as a flexible kit where they offered a selection of components to arrive at the desired frequency, and a box with terminal strips to allow any skill level a neat professional looking result.

If you want to take it apart, I see a ridge across the top of the box in your photo. You might be able to get a knife in there to pop the top off. Maybe start with a razor blade to separate any adhesive and follow up with a more sturdy blade.
