Help ID large JBL

Please help with an ID on these speakers. They sure are pretty

A bit off message but the more I follow "JBL" threads the more I am OVERWHELMED by the magnitude of the JBL line. Has any other company produced as many different models as JBL has? It's amazing! I can't keep up.

They look like sovereign's but with only the single driver set up.

:thmbsp: I think you've hit it right... C50 Olympus, probably with adapters for the S12 system instead of the S7R or S8R system.

At least that's how I'm reading the '69 JBL catalog.

No longer original.

There are plenty of JBLs (and other systems) that sound better. These are valued for the unique furniture that they are.

Exactly, nice call. The trim work actually looks very good and I'll bet the original grilles could still be intact under them. They cabinets and grilles do look very well kept.

Are you speaking of another matching speaker cabinet or an equipment cabinet? The matching Olympus equipment cabinet is quite rare and a very nice piece of furniture, assuming you have the room. If it is another speaker cabinet, great, then you'll have a stereo pair to work on.

I don't think the value is hurt all that much, but these speakers are rather specific for buyers to look for. The biggest issue about value is the cost of shipping and relative condition. Of course, the cabinets with the more complex S7R or S8R components are intrinsically worth more.

IMO, the LE14 is probably on an adapter that may have originally been set up for a 15 inch driver. There's plenty of room on the baffle to put an E-Wave together, as well as other combinations of drivers. The biggest issue is that they are low and squat so midrange and imaging is not easy to achieve. However, consider putting a satellite or horn on top and use the Olympus cabinet for bass/midbass.

Good luck and remember to take pictures in any case. Bring a couple or three furniture dollies and some muscle to move these around. Hope you have a large minivan (middle seats removed) or full size pickup to move them in.
