Help In Identifying Tube Amp

You have the FM, audio and power supply chassis for a circa 1947 EH Scott 800B in front of you. If for some reason you have need of the other half of it which contains the tuner, controls and AM circuits, I'll be happy to donate it to you if you come and pick it up.

Its not really a great candidate as a standalone tube amp. Its got a whole bunch of tubes on it that don't have anything to do with the audio chain and it uses a sort-of field coil speaker. The circuit is designed for field coils, but the actual speaker originally fitted in the console just has big resistors mounted to the back of the permamant magnet. No problem duplicating this setup but its just something to be aware of.
It would make a better parts donor, but you're still looking at mono 6L6 power. The power transformer and chokes are just massive though, so with another output transformer (or a pair of suitable ones) you could probably use those parts to build a nice amp.
Honestly if you can find someone who needs this for what it is, you can probably recover enough coin to buy or build something thats more what you want. I happen to have an extra tuner piece for one of these if you have any inclination on making it what it was originally. In the correct cabinet, its a lovely piece of furniature and with a few tweaks to the stock tone control circuits it really does sound good. This is mine:

Thanks for the help! That sure is one beautiful piece when it is in the original cabinet and all. I actually can get the tuner part too from where I got the amp, I just didn't know they went together at the time. There was no beutiful cabinet though, i guess long gone.
Is there any value to the tubes on the amp. It would be nice to restore but otherwise i would like to recover some of my cost in buying it.

The electrodynamic or field coil speaker is something that can be replaced with an AlNiCo speaker, the field coil was usually part of the filtering for B voltages. And in place of the coil, a resistor of adequate wattage and usually about 350 Ohms to replace the coil.
There is value in the tubes, the output transformer, the power transformer. and controls. But to someone who needs those pieces you have intact- they are probably worth more than the sum of the useful parts. As you can see in Gadgets' picture, the cabinet makes for a handsome looking unit. You never know- you might want to hang onto those parts you have because you may stumble across a decent cabinet tomorrow, next month, or next week. You just never know.
