Help Me AK!!! What Kind of Speakers Are These?

i can hear it now...
"Doc,i've got a problem.Would you have a look in my....:D"

Well, since much of it is wood, if you have a friend in a radiology office, you could always get them X-rayed or CT scan. DON'T get an MRI though.

Five days and 61 posts later, no one has a definitive answer. Has that ever happened on a speaker id here on AK before? :scratch2: At least for one that wasn't apparently diy.)

Oh you bet! But not very often. Not everyone stops at every post. For me, I peruse the titles to see if anything grabs my eye. And sometimes I don't catch them all. Ah well, carry on!

Maybe an Unidentified Speakers "sticky" would be interesting. When someone makes a positive id, that speaker would get added to a "solved" list.

....or something like that.

The World's Most Rarest Speakers!!! I Think.

I guess these would be considered to be the worlds most rarest production type speakers!!! Thanks AK:banana:

My guess is 3rd party or commercial extension. Possibly a department store brand, but more likely some commercial sound system or similar extension speakers.

Whatever the case, they look fabulously well built, so leave em alone and enjoy. Go to a Metal Tag manufacturing company and have them make you some small metal plate tags that read "AUDIO DEACON Speakin' Deacon Series" ;)

There. You just named them.

I would not be surprised if you find the entire speaker enclosure is metal with wood side panels (or top/bottom panels depending on orientation). That metal piece with the terminals looks oddly familiar. Can we see the 12x24 bottom panel.

This May Help

I went to a local swap meet the other day and found another pair of speakers just like mine. The seller could not resist and did what he needed to do to get the speakers open. Needless to say he damaged the cabinets and enclosures. I was able to take a picture of what the drivers and horn look like but still I have no clue what they are. See pics and help please.

Wow, ain't they somethin'. I realize I get antsy from time to time and pry myself into a hole, break things. But dang, that boy was hungry! Maybe someone will now recognize those drivers, I sure as gosh don't.

I am going to give a wag. Now the guts can be seen, I suspect a single cabinet stereo system similar in concept to the JBL Paragon and what is throwing all off is there are 2 of them. I agree the pair may have been sold together for a quadrophonic system, One in the front and one in the rear.

The setup looks interesting. As it is not a sealed box probably the rca jacks should not need an issue as they were used to connect to some lower end amps eliminating the need to screw wires with the possibility of a short. You may want to just put a cap over them to eliminate an air entry port but not likely needed.

Have you hooked them up to try? Or held off scratching your head. You may want to consider, as you have a pair hooking the system in each box in parrellel, some call this stacking and standing them vertically and then connect each system to the amp and give it a try. Because of the layout I do not think it will do well but, nothing lost or gained by trying.

And interesting find and hope you locate some history. As you found another pair locally the manufacturer may have been local. Sometimes these oddity finds lead to some interesting outcomes. If you think you may, keep them, see if you can grab their from the other guy who trashed his just for the parts. The woofers may be difficult to sorcery as well as the horn drivers.

Just guessing here - with that kind of expensive, HD build quality I would think they are from a commercial manufacturer of some kind. I am wondering if there might be a third unit to this set to handle the bass ??? What ever they are - I like them !!!
I feel for you Deacon; it would absolutely drive me nuts not knowing what they are. And the fact that they are not crap makes it worse !! Hang in there guy. :D

Sure do look like the photos. Does my suggestion to grab that 2nd pair the seller has stand? I know the small full range Fostex have a decent following. Might make the basis for a nice day project as PartsExpress seems to have cabinets for them that are prefabricated.
