Why would leave input level pots? Those were made back in the 50's where some used these without a preamp. Looks like a custom made plate for the back, glad to see inputs were moved to the back.

I dont use a preamp either, i use my cd player, which has volume control, but no ballance.
I have not seen may 50 year old controls that were reliable. Volume control is on the front. (Right and left) new controls. For any imballance issue over time. The builder gave me the choice on the inputs, i chose the back, because the source is also on the back.

Oh ok, most people have preamps , as a lot of people have turntables and also some kind of streaming device.
I do have many preamps. Conrad, Mac, Fisher, but for this system the OPPO handles all the digital and streaming, as well as local flac and native DSD files ect. I use a source switcher to switch out the oppo, and switch IN the stand alone phono preamp The ear 834p. Which also has a volume control.
My cd player has a decent DAC built in so dont need one of those. Every once in a while i put a preamp in there and take it back out after a few days. I tailored the speakers to suite my taste without the preamp in there.
