I think lots, but not all of employees were/are on strike...
Although I don't mourn the loss of the "food items" manufactured, I do hate to think of 18K folk out of work, when a bit of belt tightening from both sides of the table might have averted this. Sure, an 8% cut would hurt, but at least there would have been jobs to build upon when the economy turned around.
Hate the job losses, but Twinkies, HoHo's and Wonder Bread? All garbage, and good riddance. Given the lack of integrity of the products, this move by the owners doesn't shock me.
From what I've read, they filed for bankrupcy earlier this year. The workers did not like the contracts that were drawn up in bankrupcy court; and went on strike.
I don't know what they were thinking. The went on strike because they didn't like the contract. The contract was drawn up within conditions of the bankrupcy.
It sounds like they basically put themselves out of work and shut a business down. I don't want to get in a debate on striking; but normally a strike ends with people going back to work, not causing the liquidation of an entire organization.
I do feel bad for those people losing their jobs; but because of their demands; and entire corporation is out of business. I think its pretty sad things like that can happen. I bet in six months they're all going to wish they'd just accepted the contract and still be employed.

i wish just one of the striking workers would go to work with erin for a week. they would realize how good they have it. lazyness, greed & self importance drove this strike. im sorry for all the hard working non union members and others around the country who will be out of work because of their selfishness. sadly this wont be the last time we see this sort of thing.

I always heard Twinkies had the same half-life as nuclear waste.
