I made these last night:

  • Nathan's Beef Franks
  • Hormel Chili (add jalapeño & sweet onion), simmer on low for 1 hour.
  • Kraft Sharp Cheddar (shredded)
  • French's mustard
  • Served on Ballpark Frank Buns
  • Side vegetable: Lay's Chips

I know this stuff is popular up north but I found it disgusting. I'll take some raw chopped Vidalias any day. Don't live that far from Toombs County Ga. which has the right soil for Vidalias. A fresh one out of the field is so sweet you can eat it like an apple.

I don't mind the Sabrett styled Onions in sauce if it's cooked fresh. But there again, never tried one of your Vialias onions either.

Glad we've got folks who like onions on their dogs. Well Vidalia onions are in season right now but the season ends by late July. This years crop is smaller than normal so if you see them in your grocery store you'd better buy'em. What makes these onions so special? For one they are so sweet you can eat them like and apple plus if you peal them or chop them your eyes won't make tears. That's because they are grown in soil with very low amounts of sulfur and that soil is only found in Toombs County where the town of Vidalia is located. They cost more but worth it. Their shelf like is shorter and don't be mislead and think they're like other sweet onions. They're much better.

My dad used to order a 20 lb bag and split it with me. I’d hang them in the garage in ladies hose with knots between them. They’d last a long time. Best onion rings ever.

I haven't read the entire thread but I'll ask the question anyway. I hope not to start fist fights or anything. What's the preferred method of cooking your hot dogs? Personally I prefer barbecued, next would be broiled. Something about cooking over a flame, to me, brings out the best taste. All this talk, I think I'll fire up the SJ at lunchtime.

Those are my preferred methods too.

The worst
I dunno those hot roller dogs at gas station stores are pretty awful. Beer steamed/simmered are excellent. I have a pork butt on the smoker with 7 plus hours to go. I’m gonna throw a pack of Nathan’s on there in a minute to see me through.

I'd take beer steamed/simmered any day. I cooked some Nathan's on my Weber Smokey Joe smoker conversion with hickory chunks and they were indeed delicious

Can anybody here TOLERATE those REALLY AWFUL, low rent skinny Dawgs that are a really NAUSEATIN' shade of sorta pinkish ?!? They're TRULY AWFUL...

Sahlens is my preferred brand. Prepared from least to best:
microwaved, boiled, pan fried, broiled and at #1 grilled with chili, onions and cheese please.
Close second is with onions, mustard and Texas brand hot dog sauce, sometimes with cheese.
