How expensive was your first car?

This is the only photo I have of my first car. It's a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger with a 318 cid that my dad financed for me in '72 when I turned 16 and cost $1500. An old man owned it previously and it had 27k on it. Gawd I loved that car!! Used to cruise around with my first girlfriend in it, what a cutie!! I wish I had time machine for just one night!

We could start a 'show us a picture of your first GF thread'. Mine was a cutie too.

(joke)

My first car, a 1981 Pontiac LeMans Wagon. Buick 231 V6, Metric Turbo 350 automatic. Nicely equipped but not TOTL. Grandmother gave mom $1800 to buy it, it became mine and got hand controls and a steering knob installed when I got licensed.

I was late to the car game, always having been a motorcycle guy.And let me tell you,my first was nothing to brag about! Or be seen in either:(

1979 Plymouth Volare station wagon. 50 buck.Slant six. Fake wood. Roof rack. Acceleration? Glacial. 0-60 measured in minutes, not seconds. And absolutely frickin bulletproof. Embarrassingly identical to this one, even the colour:

Oddly enough, this is what I drive today. This ones a Hemi,so it's a bit quicker than the Volare. When I bought it brand new in 06,I asked about the availability of fake wood. After the salesman finished laughing his ass off,he confessed that I was far from the first customer to ask about that.La plus ca change.....

My first car was my Volvo 940 Turbo. 536000-some miles on the clock when I passed it on. Most reliable and undemanding car I have ever known. I regret ever having sold it to my bosse's son.

I now own a V70 XC with 240000 miles and no rust ( despite living in Minnesota) and love it nearly as much. I'm still a RWD die-hard.

I bought a 1969 VW camper bus with 76K miles for $1,700 in 1977, then rebuilt the engine with my dad (awesome experience). I drove it all over California, down to Mexico and sold it 6 years later for $2,100. My dad was freaked that you could sell a car with 100k miles on it for more than you paid for it. I miss it in many ways, but it was a safety disaster waiting to happen. my next car was a '63 VW Type 2 pickup -- the one that looked like a van with with the back chopped off. Didn't love that one as much.

Dad made me pay him 10 bucks for his 76 Ford F100 short wheelbase 300 inline 6 automatic pickup in December of 91. Damn thing got 7 miles to the gallon. Damn thing leaked every fluid horribly. The only quality thing about it is that it had a Pioneer KPX-600 cassette deck and pioneer amp that dad had put in it. I spent a many days with friends blasting Soundgarden, Metallica, and Nirvana while cruising and with the doors open at the local swimming hole. Such simply and easy times back then :D.
